Well this one certainly wasn’t slow-paced at all! “Do you want to get fired on your first day?” You could see it coming but it still worked well enough as an ending. The whole thing was silly and it shouldn’t have gotten that far. I still don’t understand how that one dismissed attendant was able to hang around the palace in the shadows for all that time...but I guess we saw her leave for good in this one. The laugh to herself, like After all that she had a girl!, and then the sigh, like My work is done here, that was good. (click for full size) And I also liked how we found out about the girl as Sung-gook did. You don’t see a reveal written that way very often and it’s a nice change of pace. So a couple of plusses there...but then the way they teased Mistress Moon’s death and then didn’t follow through, did not like that at all. Regardless of whether it’s known to the viewer that she did or didn’t survive in real history. Either way it comes off as a cheap stunt. (click for full size) Nice scene with the queen and queen mother. Mom is a very sensible person. (click for full size) Ha! You half wondered if he had really turned the corner and lost his marbles. Nope! Enjoyed the surprise. So somebody wrote something seditious on a wall someplace. Would it really provoke such a strong reaction? Maybe…but even holding the governor of the province responsible and punishing him? I wonder why they think the governor needs punishment. Maybe because it wasn’t taken down quickly enough, that’s possible. “I’m grateful for my suffering.” This kind of thing is what’s making me uncomfortable about how Sado’s story is being presented. At this point in the story he’s still just 18 years old, and the kind of reflectiveness we’re getting from Sado here, it’s a maturity level that I don’t buy from an 18-year-old. Especially one with the erratic behavior we know that Sado had. Oh dear, it ended with some evil laughter from Kim Sang-ro. Booooo! I’m also skeptical about how willing Youngjo is at this point in his life and his reign to just totally buy whatever anybody tells him. He does this with Sung-gook as well. Seems unlikely—but not impossible so I’ll let that go for now. But the evil laughter, no more of that please.
