■ Lee Jong-sung becomes head of the Soron Party and Lee Chun-bo maintains a neutral status. This shows Youngjo’s political tactics and how he checked the Noron Party from gaining dominant power.
■ Lee Jong-sung was the head of the Soron Party otherwise known as Cha or Oh-chun. He was a descendant of Lee Hang-bok. His appointment as High State Councilor affects the future of the crown prince.
Oink!
But actually he’s been much more stable and well-adjusted lately. A big change from the jerk he was at times in the early episodes.
Do what to you exactly? He’s being nice to his wife! Oh horrors! So the king’s court lady calmed her down over it…either way I don’t understand why she should be so bent out of shape in the first place.
“There’s a movement to impeach Lee Jong-sung.” He JUST took office! Geez…it’s like it was ripped from today’s headlines.
Youngjo: “How can you say it’s your fault. Nothing seems to be able to uproot it. It shoots sprouts no matter how much you cut it. It’s not your fault.” Exhibit A, being reasonable to his kid.
That proclamation that Youngjo dictated regarding Hong Joon-hwe’s exile, I don’t think we got the whole thing or I’d have transcribed it here. But it was very impressive.
“Her lady is right. It is only his Majesty that can tell the physician to stop making your medicine. Refusing medicine can cause misunderstanding.” Wow--Employee of the Month right here! I loved that. An attendant giving the business to the crown prince when it’s necessary, she’s worth her weight in gold. Wish we knew her name.
“Even if it means abandoning the prince, I have to uproot party strife. If I don’t, 30 years of my polivy would end in vain. It’ll be chaos for the nation. It’s time to take drastic measures.”...and then a very calculated, thought-out display of what seems to everyone to be a fit of rage. Yes he clearly is angry, but that wasn’t pure anger, not by any means. (We saw this happen in LBKT too.)
Mistress Moon thinks he’s taking out his anger on his son...well maybe, that seems to be part of it at least as far as him not taking his medicine, but I got the impression it was much more to show his subjects how frustrated he was with their shenanigans. It was fascinating that he was holding onto that bit of information about Sado’s medicine and then pulled it out of his pocket only when it served him best.
“I may burn this paper, but my wish to abdicate the throne can’t be burned.” Terrific ending. This may not turn out to be much of a Sado series, too soon to tell, but the Youngjo story sure is terrific so far, and big credit to the actor so far for doing an excellent job.
