You know what, you listen to the women in these series all pining to give birth to boys, and it’s no wonder that women end up getting treated like garbage as adults. Sort of a twist on the abuse-begets-abuse thing. OK so we open up with more of Lady Moon’s faking and antics. And once again everyone is taking her seriously. Shouldn’t people be starting to question her dramatic episodes by now? They know she’s a schemer, why wouldn’t somebody wonder if she’s faking. Then something else that seems strange. Why did Lady Moon throw her own attendant (Court Lady Ha) under the bus? Yes she said that she had grown uncomfortable with a mother figure around her by this time, so that explains it. But for someone who spends so much time scheming and plotting, this seems like a really dumb thing to do. Lady Ha has more than enough dirt on her to expose her and get her in huge trouble if she decided to talk. Have to think this may come back and bite her. ■ It’s recorded in the words of Lady Hyegyeong. “It’s sad. The prince boasts the decorum of a future king and advances in his studies day by day…but unfortunately shows symptoms of illness. My mother would pray every night. She would plead with the gods in the heavens for a cure, all throughout the night. It’s because I am an unworthy daughter. Their foremost concern was the well-being of the country.” A lot of that whole sequence with the prince and princess together, it was muted. Apparently they were playing music there and Arirang didn’t want to pay the royalty. This keeps happening and it was bugging me, until I realized that maybe they’re sparing us from K-Pop or something like it that’s inappropriate for this story…in which case it’s not so bad after all. Lady H: “There’s a reason for everything. Try to trace back the reasons.” That was impressive--she’s like a practicing psychologist in this scene. ■ At (this) time, Noron was the ruling party and Soron was the opposing party. Kim Sang-ro, Kim Jae-ro, Shim Man and Hong Gye-hee were the actual powers of Noron, and Lee Jong-sung and Park Moon-soo the prince’s teachers, were marginalized figures. All of a sudden we got a heavy dose of politics in this one. If you’re confused, go to the narrated text thread and read through the early stuff. It helped me refresh my memory about it.

It's usually a rendition of the theme song. I promise there's only ever one track in this show that'll make you wish YouTube blocked it out, and it's not even a vocal song. Trust me, you'll know if it plays.
