Lady Moon: “The birth of a first princess will help you erase the sadness of your loss.” Seriously? I’m amazed Lady H didn’t tell her to F off right there and then. Of course she’s not the type, and good for her for taking the high road…but wow. It seemed almost hard to believe—wouldn’t she face repercussions for being such a jerk to the crown princess? I wonder if there’s a record to support an encounter like what we saw here.
Poor Lady H, first she gets that handed to her, and then she asks her husband to share what’s bugging him and he absolutely dusts her. Not even a No, just brushes by her without a word.
The King, to loser Moon brother: “Could you be my eyes and ears outside of the palace and tell me stories of the people exactly as you see and hear them?” That was interesting, his reaction to someone speaking to him in working-class coarse words and phrases. Not sure if the real king would have reacted like that but it’s not inconceivable, not at all.
Hong Nak-in: “The prince’s guards are Mr. Moon’s colleagues. What if he gets them to spy on the prince?” Look at this, a scholar with common sense too. A rare breed.
The prince is all flustered and storms out of his library…but he has to stop for a minute so he can get his shoes on. That was terrific—just a very small touch that shows how somebody or everybody making the series is thinking about little details to help it be more realistic. Encouraging to see that.
The nighttime scene between Sado and Lady H...say what you will about nepotism but both of those actors did a terrific job there. Wonderful scene…I almost transcribed it as a narrated text but there was enough debate in there that it wouldn’t quite fit.
OK so in this one we find out that the younger woman working with Mrs. Moon is actually loser son’s wife…which presumably makes the little kids around there his and her kids. So the scene in the first episode where he basically rapes the washing girl, that was to establish what a loser he is as a married man. I have to think that Arirang trimmed some content out of an earlier episode that would have made this clear sooner. As I’ve mentioned, they do that…and the stuff at the Moon house is probably the safest stuff to trim if somebody wants to do trimming.
And again I’m baffled about Lady Moon, this time faking a pregnancy. Eventually the truth will come out, right? Why does she think this is a good idea? Not that I’m doubting it could have happened this way; just saying she doesn’t seem to be showing good judgment.
Lady H: “Are you sure she’s pregnant? Don’t worry if you’re not sure.” Thank you.
There we go again with the slapstick. Looks like Sean was right, it does seem to be announcing the time of day. I’m just curious about why a slapstick instead of some other kind of sound.
Another very well acted scene. Both of them. And the prince’s reaction was terrific, you could see it in his eyes. Enormously touched and encouraged to get a rare dose of decency and kindness from his father, mixed with just a little bit of Holy crap the wife was right! Loved that.
