“I need a schedule to sleep with my wife?” “Yes, your highness.” “Then reschedule for tonight.” Enjoyed that!
OK so apparently the king didn’t boink Soon-nyu when he first met her in the previous episode. I misunderstood that. As we saw here, when it does happen it’s a huge, huge deal.
The next morning she’s waving her dress around, she thinks she’s made it, she’s reflecting on her life…why was it completely silent? Wasn’t sure if there was an audio issue or if it was intentional. Seems like there should be some music to go with that. So far it’s been a nice change of pace to have a more quiet series, but it may be going a bit much in the other direction at times.
So these other women who serve as head court ladies and have legitimate jobs and duties, has the king boinked them all too and is that how they got the jobs they have? I don’t think so but it’s not clear why a rookie mistress would get the same title they have.
“…It is from that moment that a woman starts to age and lose confidence. Make sure your love doesn’t change.” The queen’s reflection, that was the best thing in the episode. Really well written.
Some of the goofy physical stuff with the mother and brother was a little over the top, but it sure was funny to see how the deadbeat brother’s fortune changed overnight. Even to the point where the official who just the other day had him beat up is now sucking up to him. The guy playing the official handled it well.
Soon-nyu: “My enemies will grow over time.” Wow she really does have this all thought out down to the last detail. She’s being portrayed as a total schemer and I keep wondering how accurate that is and why her story is getting so much episode time. Have forgotten the details from Lady Hyegyeong’s book.
“She must be a fox.” Wow Hong Bonghan is a smart guy (fox as in sly, not as in a hot girl). Already has her figured out.
Story’s dragging a little right now but at least the acrobat nanny hasn’t been around lately so I’ll take that gratefully. And it's interesting to see some of the inside stuff about how a palace works; we haven't gotten much of that in the historicals we've watched here.

■ Receiving grace is when a court lady has the honor of serving the king in bed. But receiving grace does not always mean they become the king’s mistress. Whether they give birth to a prince or princess and the level of the king’s love decides their new titles, which ranges from rank one to four. A court lady that has received grace for the first time is given rank five and placed as Head Court Lady but does not have duties to fulfill.

■ It is recorded in history that King Youngjo mourned over the death of Lady Hyun-bin, a faithful and good daughter-in-law. He visited her shrine to pay tribute and there was a court lady with the family name Moon whom he came to adore. Her brother had the name Moon Sung-gook.
