This whole thing has turned into an operatic tragedy. The ending of this episode, all we needed was KH giving us an aria. And that’s not being critical or making fun, not at all. It just has become utterly pathetic, this man who held his world in his hand and had the lead in uniting the peninsula, now he’s looking at having to bow to his lifelong rival just to salvage what little scraps of justice he can, and extinguishing his kingdom in the process. And yeah Kyungbo’s point about all of the lives that were sacrificed and how there should be no more of it, no doubt that played into it too. But that’s not what’s in his mind. The ending was so sad, no matter what you think of the guy you couldn’t help but feel sorry for him.
That letter from Ahjagae was not at all what I expected. Much more empathetic and understanding than anything he’s ever shown or said about KH. But it definitely makes sense and fits, simply because so much time has passed and he’s at the end of his life, and a lot of people get there and regret their past stupidity.
The unseen female attendant who announced the physician’s arrival, she sounded JUST like Mrs. KH. I wonder if it was really that actress just filling in the audio.
Quite a talking-to that Madame Kobe gave KH. Have never seen her like that before. And she was 100% right about everything.
The sequence with WG reviewing the navy and then the army, a whole lot of money was spent right there! Right to the end of the series, a generous budget. And it was spent productively.
Well so much for my complaining about the same female scene in every episode. Ha! Unfortunately we got a flashback to the days when Doyoung was kind of a jerk. Fair enough, her message was useful, but it didn’t need that kind of a delivery. It was just interesting to see some of the other wives. I wonder why they didn’t do more with them in the series.
Mrs. KH on Neunghwan: “He considers himself the real head of state. He always has.” Really? I never got that impression, not once.
Park Young-kyu’s caretaker: “No job is too difficult if it is for you, my lord.” Geez that’s a guy you want working for you. How about giving him a name? A shame calls him “caretaker,” he deserves better.
…aaaaaand there it is. Now we know how this will end, don’t we.
So General Badal takes a drink from a cup, and there’s a drop left on his lips and he’s swallowed. How about that. And here I was calling him a dimwit, turns out he’s the smartest one in either kingdom!
The thing that isn’t clear at this point, even assuming KH can escape from the temple and somehow make it to Koryo, what will it matter? He can’t do anything of any substance like declare a surrender or hand his kingdom over to WG. I suppose the intelligence he could provide would be extremely valuable, but otherwise it seems like this would be just a PR coup like when Ahjagae moved to Koryo. Weird.
