Wang Guhn on flipping Kyun-hwon: “To do that, we require Ahjagae’s help.” Actually no, the help you require is an ace physician to fix his back. That’s just how you flipped Ahjagae, with healthcare. Get yourself a boil expert!
Doesn’t it seem odd that Sulhee never went to visit Ahjagae in Chulwon until now? Considering how important recruiting Ahjagae was, and how Sulhee ended up calling him “Foster Father,” why has Sulhee not visited repeatedly? It should have been written as the latest in a series of periodic visits. I don’t buy it this way. Especially since Sulhee apparently doesn’t have his own family to attend to...which we don’t know for sure but look at how he reacted to Lady Daeju...
...which was a big surprise, seeing her again. Strange, why bring her back? Please, please don’t tell me that KH flips and then Daeju renounces her vows and runs into Sulhee’s arms. Good heavens that would be a cringe-y ending.
The way they’ve presented this whole Ahjagae/Sulhee business, does it play better to the Korean audience than to a foreigner? The guy playing Ahjagae has played the eccentric geezer type well, but it all has such a strange vibe to it. And then later we learn that he actually did write the letter to his son, wow that was a shocker. Wish we had seen more of that, and less of the geezer stuff.
But frankly I’ve had trouble even watching these newest Ahjagae scenes because his teeth are so repulsive and so weird-looking. I’ve never seen an old person with bad teeth whose teeth look anything like that. Or is it just me?
Yes, at least that long...until the rise of modern dentistry!
And if the teeth aren’t bad enough, there’s Sulhee with the worst fake drinking out of a glass ever. Didn’t even make an effort. BOOOOOOO
Shin-guhm, on KH: “I will have him next to me on my enthronement for the entire kingdom to see.”
You said it, lady. What on earth makes SG think that he can change his dad’s mind? This is back to the poor-judgment SG that we got to know so well. It’s bizarre. There’s no possible reason for him to think he can do it. He doesn’t seem to be afraid of the job, so it doesn’t appear like he’s just using this as an excuse. But right now it simply doesn’t make sense why he holds out hope for it happening.
The guy playing Neunghwan did a nice job in this one.
Wow the whole vibe really changed when the monks showed up. The guy playing Kyungbo is another one who did well here. He totally projects the calm and centered feel that you’d expect an important monk to have.
OK so the Koryo guys got the letter from Ahjagae. But how do they think they’ll be able to get it into KH’s hands? The guy is guarded like he’s Fort Knox and it’s not like the mailman can drop it into the slot in the front door. We need an explanation here.
I liked how Neungae still has the scar from when KH bonked him with the drinking cup. Attention to detail that a lot of series overlook.
