Well Shin-guhm certainly has shed every trace of hesitation, hasn’t he. He was 100% resolute and gung-ho in this one. I wonder if we’ll see any lingering signs of regret or discomfort after he’s taken over.
Sangae: “God must be on our side...He puts me in charge of the entire palace!”
Exactly! THANK you! Geum-kang is way too naïve to last as a king. Sure he’d pick it up pretty quickly…but it’s already way too late.
Oh and now I see that Geum-kang is drinking from an empty cup just like the rest of them. No king for you pal. UGH.
We didn’t get a name for this guy but whoever he is, what a valuable person to have working for you. Pushing back against his boss because he’s so convinced that there’s trouble, and getting his way. And he’s right.
Speaking of good employees, how about Choi Seung Woo’s attendant coming back to check on him like he did in he midst of all the trouble. Have to admire his devotion.
The two younger princes all pissed off because they couldn’t rub it in Geum-kang’s face, that was funny. And a very real human reaction. And actually, Shin-guhm probably should have brought them along after all. The unified showing with the three princes together would have made a more powerful statement than just SG going in there without them.
This was quite a moment, and SG certainly seems to be up to it. For just a moment there I could see his dad in him.
“It’s a comet! A guk-hwang at that...It grazed King Kyun-hwon’s constellation and disappeared.” Oh good heavens they’re back to this nonsense yet again. First of all, it obviously was a meteorite, not a comet. That’s embarrassing. Second, meteorites—and for that matter comets too—do not make whistling noises when they pass by. That’s even more embarrassing. And third, why do this? What does this add to the story, claiming things like “stars have been suggesting curious movements in Bekjae recently”? And these predictions are always correct, what is going on with that? Well I won’t beat on this for now but it’s going to come up big-time in the wrap-up threads after the final episode.
Looks like we may be done with Kyun-hwon after the next one. Sure will miss him; he’s not quite as powerfully charismatic as Goongyae was but the actor playing him sure has done a wonderful job.

In March of 965 AD, on the 18th year of Wang Guhn’s reign and the 36th year of Kyun-hwon’s reign, Later Bekjae’s Shin-guhm finally rises up against his father. THe Chronicles of Koryo writes about this event like this: “in March of 32nd binary term of the sexagenary cycle, Kyun-hwon’s son Shin-guhm imprisoned his father in Geum-san Temple and killed his younger brother Geum-kang. Of a dozen sons from many wives, Geum-kang was favored by Kyun-hwon to succeed his throne for his stature and superior intelligence. This was troubling to older sons Shin-guhm, Yang-guhm, Yong-guhm. While Yang-guhm and Yong-guhm were serving military duties in the countryside and Shin-guhm alone was by their father’s side, Prime Minister Neunghwan plotted and provoked an overthrow.” This was the first telltale sign of Bekjae’s imminent fall.
