Sorry this took so long, more family health issues.
Geum-kang is still amazingly naïve about how the world works. Thinking that his potential opponents in the military will roll over and support him just because they could get in trouble for not doing so…geez how could he not know better?
Shin-guhm: “I have thought about this a thousand times. But it is not right. it is not the straight and narrow path.” Wow…between GK’s continued naïve outlook and SG’s newly emergent moral code, maybe SG doesn’t compare so badly after all.
And there it is. Finally Kyun-hwon makes the choice and acts on it. This has been way drawn out in the story—not to the point where it became too much, but almost.
Wow how sad it is to see Choi Seung Woo burning his papers. How valuable those would have been. And he’s preparing for the insurrection he’s sure is going to happen by accepting his death? I’m surprised he doesn’t just pick up and go to Koryo or back to China or wherever.
“First, Prime Minister Neunghwan will be removed from office and banished to an island 250 miles from the capital.” Well, thank YOU for a lifetime of service to me, mister prime minister. And I liked how the scribe and the attendant got more and more freaked out as KH went on.
“A man of repute cannot exploit his neighbor’s weakness and take what is not his…We are neighbors. Let us grow and prosper together.” That was sure impressive…
…but obviously not everybody’s on board with it! Fun scene.
“Modesty and courteous refusal is a virtue among neighbors.” How about that, Doyoung figured it out.
“Why must you make me turn against you? Why, father?” This has turned into something really terrific, watching Shin-guhm wrestling with his conscience all the way to the end and even afterwards. Never would have expected him to be so interesting.
