Wow, what an opening--another wonderful battle scene. Even the stones that were thrown…obviously not real but they looked darned good, certainly got the point across. A couple of those stunt guys, I hope they didn’t get concussed, they took a stone right to the noggin. We really are getting spoiled by all of the effort and resources that are being put into these battle scenes. Consistently excellent.
Of course Kyun-hwon had to walk into the fortress right after it fell, it’s TV after all…but they had just that very moment ended the battle. What if there were an enemy archer or two left alive? I didn’t care for that. Although fair enough, KH is the kind of person who you can believe would do it and not listen to anybody advising him otherwise.
Now we have two worthy EWG entries in the Bad Deal game. The three messengers show up and report the Goelbu attack; one of them gets killed on the spot and another gets shot in the back trying to get away. Just for reporting the truth. Ouch.
So those 10,000 Bekjae troops who snuck their way through southern Shilla, we learned in this one that they were divided into several smaller groups. Still amazing but that does make more sense than trying to move them all together.
Choi Ung: “We will quickly dispatch the two armies to Surabul and strike the south coast by sea at the same time.” It’s amazing how for ahead of everybody else Choi Seung Woo is. I don’t know if he’s anticipated the sea part of it (he hasn’t said anything) but he has them all set up for that Mt. Gong ambush he’s talked about.
WG: “I must go to Surabul myself. How can I stay here when King Kyun-hwon is in Surabul?” Holy crap the guy is amazing; he called this one too.
My one big beef with the episode is that the approach to Moon Palace was overlit. Looked phony.
You can allow some leeway for moonlight but that was way too much.
ANOTHER battle scene? And this one was even better. Amazing stunts and coordination. The lighting was a problem but the rest of it was terrific. Love the burning barrels! They look great on camera, and you can totally buy them being used in the real battle. On top of everything else this series does well, it does seem to find little twists and new things to keep the battle scenes interesting.
“Fight off the enemy! We are the last Flower Knights!” Well that was an interesting tidbit right there. We saw their birth during QSD and now it looks like we see their end. How about that.
Gee you sort of figured Kim Yul was the typical doughy out-of-shape official—he did a fine job of fighting, didn’t he? And the drum and the burning tower, what an image. I wonder if there’s a historical record on the real guy to warrant giving him that kind of a dramatic, noble death.
I was looking forward to this one because I did know one historical tidbit, that KH really did enter the Surabul palace and found the king partying. At least that’s what’s written in history…it seemed a little bit of a stretch…but this episode gave us an absolutely believable scenario for how it could have happened. And it was full of terrific scenes throughout. Another winner.
