“And why do my subjects behave this way? Never dare intrude on your king’s authority in the future.” Hey Einstein, did you see what he did to the previous king? And the king before him? You dumbbell. No this is too much leeway taken by the writers, it’s absurd.
LSG certainly took it well though, didn’t he? Of course he knows it’s only a matter of time....
“Lee Saek conspired with Jo Minsu and helped Shin Don’s descendant Chang to the throne....” There ya go.
For a while I thought we were getting a dream sequence...so LSG’s sons somehow chased all of the palace guards and eunuchs away (except one) and then made a big noise with horns? Apparently this was a mafia-style statement of intimidation? Write Gongyang’s character properly and this isn’t necessary...oh wait maybe that’s the whole point...blecch.
So now the kings’ beheadings were Bangwon’s idea too? Does this guy have to think of everything?
Bangwon: “Even King Taejo, who founded Goryeo, was a disloyal insurgent.” You don’t say! Did your dad tell you all about Goongyae? HA!
And a big sword-fight between the military brother and the civil servant brother, gee who’s gonna win that one.
Bangwon sits down at a café and hears what the commoners are saying about his father. Can’t say I’m a big fan of this series so far but we’re already getting these kinds of glimpses of the larger country and those are working beautifully (as they always do) so bravo for that much.
What we learned about the series taking inspiration from The Godfather, that may be the key insight into all this. Juice up the family drama, inject Bangwon into everything possible, and cast everyone for a mafia-family story, accuracy be damned. Hopefully that's being too harsh and judging too soon, we’ll see...So far I’ll take Jeong Dojeon over this one easily.

So now the kings’ beheadings were Bangwon’s idea too? Does this guy have to think of everything? Beheadings definitely were not Bangwon's idea(and neither were exiling Lee Saek and Byeon Ahn-yeol). Historically, King Gongyang ordered the beheading of two kings himself to justify his position as the new king and tarnish LSG's name. Although killing the two kings was Gongyang's idea, regular people on streets would assume that this was LSG's idea, not the king, since most people saw Gongyang as LSG's puppet. LSG was already disliked by many peasants for exiling national hero Choi Young. He'd now also be known as the guy who dethroned and beheaded two kings including a 10 year old child. Nice effort by Gongyang, I'd say.

I think the decision to have Bangwon be responsible for their deaths was not a good one.
Even if he is the main lead, having him be responsible for every notable point in history will just get repetitive if they keep this up.
But most importntly, having him cause two deaths that will cost his father's reputation AND behind his father's back this early may reduce the impact of one of his later infamous actions in which he does something similar. An action that led to the loss of someone Yi Seonngye wanted by his side.
Yi Seonggye is already calling his son a beast. It feels too early for that.

I think the decision to have Bangwon be responsible for their deaths was not a good one. I agree. I think we can't help but to think Jeong Dojeon is superior than this drama since it was so good. I'm just waiting for the story that comes after death of Jeong Dojeon, which was not covered in Jeong Dojeon.

Nice effort by Gongyang, I'd say And to be fair, they did do a good job of showing how LSG was very distressed upon hearing this and asked the king to stop it. His realizing that he'd be seen as the culprit, it definitely came through. Yes certainly a clever move by Gongyang, espeically sending the orders out ahead of time so LSG couldn't stop them. I think the decision to have Bangwon be responsible for their deaths was not a good one.... Yi Seonggye is already calling his son a beast. It feels too early for that. I had the very same reaction whan he said that. They're forcing Bangwon's presence in everything too quickly rather than letting the story tell itself. What will be left for later? Have you guys heard any overall reaction yet from Korean viewers about the first few episodes?

Have you guys heard any overall reaction yet from Korean viewers about the first few episodes? Overall reaction is positive as this is the first traditional historical in years. Some viewers are wary of making Lee Bangwon be responsbile for everything, but many are also grateful for being the only thing that resembles a real traditional in a sea of romance fantasy "historicals." I mean, look at all the so called "historicals" running in other TV stations right now. KBS2 - Crossdressing girl as king MBC - King Jeongjo romance drama tVN - Another love "historical" Most historical fan reaction is this : While the Lee Bangwon drama may not be perfect, it's our only hope.

That's certainly understandable. Especially with the networks doing so little to make past ones available.
Hopefully the positive reaction will lead to another one.

Actually Red Sleeve is decent ,i like the fact Song Dong Im is actually plain and uses her intellect to get by .Its better than a LBH type drama. Its not all romance and has a lot going on .Still its just a more serious version of Yi San .
Ratings for Bangwon have been in the 8 or 9% range .When you consider Young Lady And Gentleman has ratings in the mid 30's you can see why one went to KBS World and the other to Kocowa (in some regions )

This just aired . I enjoyed it but felt the production was rushed . The intimidation scene was classic though .
We have had a dearth of Bangwon dramas and films over the last few years and it’s a no brainer that JDJ is easily the best . This one comes second though . I never get tired of this story .
It’s nice the brothers have made up but I get the feeling it won’t last long as the older brother is so pro- Wang .
