Dramacool is working correctly again. This episode displayed properly with no screen distortion. And GoodDrama is back up and running...but it’s in a different format than before and it’s loaded with pop-ups. Every time you click on something, even to pause for a moment, another pop-up. Dailymotion is still the easiest way to watch the episodes right now. Just be sure to put a zero when you’re searching for a particular episode, like 081.

It would have been better to put this narration in the middle of the opening scene rather than at the end, because what happened here is almost too surprising to believe. But if the real Sukchong actually did present this icon to WG, then okay we have to accept it. What we got here doesn’t sit entirely well with me, just because the series has tried too hard to put WG on a hero pedestal and present him as the Dosun-ordained golden child. For the real Sukchong to do what he did, there must have been much more to the story and it felt like we didn’t get it because it just sort of fell back on the you’re-the-savior stuff.
But the scene itself was outstanding, one of the best of the series. Made a powerful statement and you couldn’t take your eyes away. WG saying “He who makes no mistakes makes nothing,” a big change for him—he’s now admitting he thinks Goongyae has made mistakes. The writing was good, how they finessed WG accepting the icon but unwillingly. “I will respect your wish and perceive this as a decree to protect and serve my people and my country.” And it was a good idea to bring Huhwal along, his being there gave everything more credibility.
And fair enough, Choi Soo Jong did a good job here. Played it well. And the music was excellent, fit perfectly.
Didn’t care for how the dream was portrayed; it felt almost cartoonish.
Suin to WG: “You fell asleep soon after my father offered you strong wine.” Yeah once again WG can’t hold his liquor. That’s okay, nothing wrong with it, but he should know by now to moderate or to turn it down entirely.
Tepyoung comes in the next morning and he knows about the icon? Word should not be getting out about that. I’m shocked that WG didn’t immediately tell Yu and his daughter to zip it and tell no one. Doesn’t he realize how this could be misinterpreted and used against him? Is his memory that short from being in prison just a little while ago? Fortunately for him Tepyoung realizes it and tells him...but is it too late already? Very poor lack of thinking on WG’s part.
We heard mention of Hwan Sungil having victories against Shilla—sure would like to hear more about that! Goongyae called him dumb, remember? Maybe not so much....
Geum Shik: “They won’t suspect us of copying their tactic, and [will] neglect to prepare for such a maneuver.” Why? It worked for them, why would they not think their opponent might try it as well? Didn’t understand that at all. The part about not expecting a cold-weather attack, that makes perfect sense, but not this part.
Here’s my nit-picking again: some of the sequences in the battle scenes had no visible breath. The Majin army had visible breath but Geum Shik’s guerilla parties didn’t. Okay they weren’t in exactly the same places so I suppose it’s possible there was a warm breeze in one place but not the other...and don’t misunderstand, big credit to the actors and crew who went out there and filmed on the chilly night.
Kyun-hwon’s dream was much better presented than WG’s. Very believable that he’d have such a nightmare about his father.
“General, the castle gate was left wide open last night!” Seriously? We needed an explanation for that. There’s just no way that makes sense. Not doubting that it might have happened, we just need to understand how something so reckless could have happened.
“His majesty had used this very strategy on them once. How foolish of them to think we’d fall for this.” Okay but it looks like they did. Some of the strategy here was hard to follow. We left in the middle of it all so hopefully when we get back to it we’ll get a more through explanation.

Ganja, the symbol of Maitreya, is bequeathed to Wang Guhn. This was a profoundly significant event. By doing this, Sukchong, the disciple of Jinpyo, was proclaiming Wang Guhn as the new supreme leader.

The Chronicles of Koryo writes about Wang Guhn’s dream like this: “At age thirty King Taejo dreamed of being atop a nine-story gold tower.” Astrologer and scribe Choi Jimong would later interpret his dream as a sign that Wang Guhn would unify the Three Kingdoms and become an emperor.
