Sorry this is late. My mom has been sick and things have been busy.
Had to have your thinking cap on for this one! Things that seemed far-fetched or even ridiculous at first fell into place as the episode went on.
Park Yu: “Is there any security in this place?” THANK you sir. Ugh this whole thing was a big dud. It took all of those guys to fire a few arrows? And they left themselves no escape route out of the construction site? And the final three of them let themselves get captured rather than commit suicide, knowing that they’d be executed anyway? This all seems unbelievably stupid.
“We are here at the aid of the Wangs of Song-ak. Lord Wang has secretly supported us!” Okay well that explains why the final three let themselves get caught. So they could “confess” seditious nonsense. Still, they could have done all this out in the countryside and gotten a better shot at Goongyae.
Wow those guys must have been hugely devoted to Yangil to give up their lives for him, all this time after his death. But I guess it’s not totally implausible.
Hmm, apparently nothing helps a sick person get better than having fifteen people in the room staring at him. UGH. Why do these shows always do that? Well at least they’re not all wailing and moaning—we’ve seen that plenty of times and that’s just awful.
Jongkahn to the royal physician: “I will have your head if his majesty dies!” Every single time, it gets proven and proven again: there is no worse job in human history than royal physician.
Eunbu on the assassins: “They’d have to be imbeciles to volunteer such information.” THANK you sir. Certainly nobody in their right minds would believe that stuff.
(And this is beside the point but you have to think that the poison must have been spoiled or defective. Seems like Goongyae should have been dead within minutes.)
Ahjitae: “It was an ambush. We couldn’t have stopped it.” Seriously? Hmmm....if I’m Jongkahn I’m going to keep my eyes open for any opportunity to falsely implicate Ahjitae in all this and get rid of him once and for all. Not sure he would do that while he still doesn’t know the truth...but opportunity knocks....
And now another of the old cliches, they’re using those wooden beams in front of the prisoners’ legs to torture them. I’ve never been able to figure out what they’re doing or why it’s so painful. Does anybody know? It seems like there are a hundred better ways to inflict pain than what they’re doing, but we see it all the time in reputable historicals so it must have been pretty standard practice to do it.
“You all know the prophecy: ‘The green pine of Song-ak.” General Wang Guhn will rise up and overtake the throne.” Was anybody else surprised that Yangil’s men knew about this? My impression was always that this Dosun/prophecy stuff was a whispered secret that not many people had even heard. If everybody knew it then WG wouldn’t have the trusted, important position he has, would he? Strange.
“Ahjitae is the man in charge of this public works site. He will be taken to Song-ak for questioning. Take him!” HA! Jongkahn didn’t miss his chance.
“This leaves us with questions about General Wang.” Huh?!? Wait, is he believing the prisoners?!?
Pyungdal: “Advisor Jongkahn has always been unsettled by the fact that we know of his majesty’s past.” Ohhhh...so not only is Jongkahn using the situation against Ahjitae, he’s going to use it against WG and the Wang clan too. That must be the explanation. Wow.
Why is Doyoung sitting closer to the head of the table than Buyong? Isn’t that completely out of line? Maybe the director made a mistake here.
“There is a spiritual master who I’ve seen cure men from near death with energy from his bare hands.” UGH come on Park Yu can’t possibly be that stupid can he? Or was this common belief back then? I hope we get a narrated text real soon about this assassination attempt so we know how much of it is accurate.
