Wow, poor Buyong, you can really tell she got hurt bad, still a lot of pain there. She has every right to belt him one! Hope this high-visibility household she’s married into doesn’t prove to be too much for her kind heart. She deserves better (geez how many times have I said that about a woman in this series).
And now is Doyoung getting squirrely about being wife #2? UGH.
It still seems strange that there isn’t a stronger relationship between WG and Jongkahn. At least some sort of polite familiarity after all this time. Jongkahn still calling him an “enemy” after so much time has passed, he’s hurting himself with that too.
...well now Doyoung is at least saying the right things...blecch I hope this doesn’t become a distraction.
WG: “I’ve wanted to have a heart-to-heart talk with him for some time.” Well where has this been? You should have gone to him as soon as Goongyae started calling you “brother” and made it clear that you had no ambitious intentions and were only dedicated to Goongyae. Well at least they’re meeting now, for whatever good it will do with his passiveness about this.
“I’d like to ask you a blunt question since we are here. You are the most loyal patriot who cares a great deal about our people. But you are most unkind to me. Why?...Why do you distrust me so? What have I done wrong?” DOINK!!!! Holy buckets where did that come from?!? Did anybody think WG had that in him? This was an absolute jaw-dropper. It came so out of the blue it was disorienting—especially the way he asked it, without any sense of hurt or submission, totally direct and fearless. We’ve never seen this from him, speaking truth to power like that.
Jongkahn: “This meeting has proven to be most fruitful.” Really? They came up with nothing to control Ajikae and he’s the problem. But give him a ton of credit for answering WG’s question completely and without hesitation. That was another surprise, didn’t expect him to be so honest about it. This was quite a scene.
“Pathetic mortals! Are you afraid of death? We cannot let that phony Maitreya beguile us!” Sukchong is not long for this earth, is he.
Some excellent music for this one. Disturbing stuff, really fit the mood. But I sure hope we get a good narrated text about that mantra. There’s obviously a significance to this part of the story and it would be helpful to understand it better.
Goongyae: “...the six-syllable mantra is the essence of all truths. Knowing and repeating this mantra alone can deliver you from hell.” Okay but why is it so disruptive politically? It’s just a chant. Please more information.
Goongyae: “I have all-seeing eyes and the power to read your minds.” Hmm, I wonder if anybody actually will believe that. Not sure even the most humble commoners will buy that, not with his reputation tanking like it has been.
And then the hilarious image:
Park Yu looked like he was constipated, that was very funny. He may not be long for this world either.
“Suffering and pain will open the door to Maitreya’s paradise.” Oh that does NOT sound good at all. This is starting to get genuinely scary.
