“Brother, is your soul still here?” Yeah, I think it’s out looking for a good lawyer to sue the writers. Still can’t understand such a seemingly pointless, foolish death.
But we move on...The attempted assassination scene, it was good how that was written, the way it turned into opportunism and infighting over maybe killing more than just Yeohwa. Hae Geon’s angle about setting them up (with a very smart, timely flashback) was also good, and so was Jin Seung suddenly showing a darker side. On the other hand, the idea that they would go and do this at all, not real crazy about it...just doesn’t seem like something those guys would do.
“I need the power to fight Yeohwa. Give me that power.” Except for the coronation, this episode was all about the queens. And the idea of it, fair enough, the jockeying for position and scheming to get your clan into power and get a piece of the heir to the throne, yeah that could be a big deal so no issues with it being part of the story. But the execution isn’t working so well. A lot of the reason for it is it’s just hard to take Annoying Girl and her brother seriously as big-time power players.
“Even if we forget her age, she’s not that pretty.” Ouch! Wow, saying that about a twelve-year-old girl? Storyline aside, I wonder how that young actress felt about being called not pretty in a nationally televised series. Are her parents okay with that—is it really worth getting your kid on TV to hear that kind of insult? Maybe I’m overreacting but it seemed cruel and unnecessary.
Jin Seung, walking into Yeohwa’s quarters and finding no one. “What’s going on? Did someone tell her?” Without question one of the dumbest things anybody has ever said in a historical. There’s a big noisy fight going on outside and Danyi (the attendant) could see Payun right outside the window. How on earth would he think she wouldn’t know? Ugh.
The scene after all of the fighting, with just Yeogu and Yeohwa in the room together, how can you not like them together. They’re just so right for each other. She really has turned into a good character. Which of course makes Annoying Girl even weaker by comparison.
Oh look, it’s the ring again—the ring that she STOLE. Now she’s flashing it around to score political points. I guess by now she gets to keep it.
“The two of you will be Yeohwa’s servants and protect her.” What is all of this with people murdering and attempted-murdering royals and not being punished for it? It’s getting ridiculous! Yes Yeohwa said she wanted the whole thing dropped but we’re on the way to anarchy here.
I like how the coronation scene was presented. The look of it, and the buildings they used...it was very different from other coronation scenes we’ve seen and that’s what you want and need when you’re so far back in time.
The text of what has to be the most poorly timed narration ever:
“Why are you causing me so much pain? Stop being so childish!” This is what it’s come to with Annoying Girl—Wi Birang has become a voice of reason. She’s been crowned a queen of an entire freaking country and she’s sitting there crying. And at the end, Yeogu heads over to Yeohwa’s to consummate their marriage and she runs over to prevent it? Seriously? Very poor writing. She reacted with total shock that Yeogu would go over there, like she didn’t know or expect that it would ever happen (not to mention knowing from almost the day she met him that his heart was always for Yeohwa). Disappointed, sure, but surprised? That was embarrassing.
Of course, Yeogu could stop all this by simply saying that if Yeohwa dies he’ll just marry another woman in her family. If he explains himself about there being good reason for what he’s doing, and makes that threat to go along with it, nobody will even think of laying a hand on Yeohwa because the alternative could be so much more unfavorable to the Jins. Let’s hope he thinks of something like that soon enough so we can get past this nonsense and back to the good stuff.

In 346 Bu Yeogu takes the throne. He’s the 12th eoraha of Baekje, King Geunchogo. He conquered Liaoxi and unified Mahan and Garakguk. He spread culture to Japan and gave the Chiljido sword to the emperor. The era of Baekje’s greatest eoraha, King Geunchogo, began. What the heck?!? Giving away the whole story ahead of time? I know, this is all historical fact, but you don’t do that. No historical we’ve ever watched has spilled out 25 episodes of story before we see it happen. Boo hiss!
