Another episode without very much going on in the larger historical story, but it was enjoyable anyway. Writing, acting, production, all of it continues to be very good, so what we're getting is certainly entertaining.
Yakson sure does complain a lot for a guy with no answers and nothing constructive to offer. He's just starting to get to the point of being annoying so I hope we're going to see the last of him soon--not because I dislike him but because we've had enough of the character.
Doesn't matter whose idea it is, the guerilla fighting is exactly the right choice. Home turf, mountain retreats, long supply lines to attack. Looking forward to see how this is shown in upcoming episodes because it should work wonders.
Dae Jipsung wants to reopen the games? Seriously? And Choe U agrees? Like they have so many extra lives to waste dying in that arena? Really?
Here's the narrated text:
Choe U said that Anshim "came here to support her family." Okay this all makes more sense now; she agreed to do this for financial reasons. All we were told previously was about her family's struggles and that the local magistrate sent her here...
...but you know what, KJ ought to be making enough money now that he could help support her family. And I still can't help wondering why KJ doesn't ask Choe to release her. Choe asked KJ again in this episode about finding a wife, and for goodness sakes Choe can get lots of other attractive women to replace her. But let's be patient on this; the fact that Choe fell asleep and then got up and left without you-know-what, it means she's still in play.
"They heard he's ill and they want to make a name for themselves." See how interesting things got the moment we went out into the street and saw what was going on with those herbal medicine guys? This is exactly what I'm always harping about. Yes the crowd scenes are more expensive to shoot but wow do they add a lot to the storylines of these historicals.
So the Mongols are just as clueless as everybody else in historicals about leading your army into a ravine! Well to be fair they are flatlanders, the mountain warfare may not be instinctive...and they did have reason to expect the countryside to be entirely deserted...but still, how dumb do you have to be? This is almost the military equivalent of the cliff dive.
"In ancient China, Cao Cao's foster grandfather was a eunuch." For anybody else who was clueless on this reference like I was, here's the guy's bio. The relevant point is that he was a guy from humble origins who rose to great power.

"You should go. And try to steer clear of her from now on." Yangbaek leading KJ away, that was a nice gesture, showed real empathy. He doesn't always make the smartest decisions, but keep him away from the booze and he's a real good guy.
"There was something going on with Anshim." What? Oh come on now, how the heck would two random flunkies of Yakson's even know about this, much less get drawn into a let's-kill-Kim-Jun plot. For the most part this series has been wonderful about not insulting our intelligence with stupid storyline twists. But this one radiates trouble. Okay they'll find stuff out and tell Yakson and Yakson will try to smear KJ with it and get him in trouble with Choe and then Songi will get it a big snit...or some such nonsense. Blecch.
"I exist only to serve my lord." Have to admire Park Songbi for being honest enough with himself and aware enough of his limitations to not want to lead the Guard Corps. And then the surprise: "Who then....Kim Jun, perhaps?" Wow, so he's actually considering it! But then: "Suppose I give Songi's hand to Kim Jun?" Where did that come from? One doesn't require the other, does it? So it was a weird ending.

Here's the narrated text:
The Ranger Patrols. The patrols were created by Choe U to police the nation. At first they were divided into Left and Right Patrols. To this was added the Wing Cavalry, men who escaped the Mongols. Together they formed the Three Patrols. They were the best of the best, strong and true. For 40 years they dominated the Koryo-Mongol Wars. To them fell the task of guerilla fighting.Yakson: "I won't go into the office again." That's exactly what I'm talking about. Park Songbi needs to drag him out into an alley and smack him until he comes to his senses.
