"It seems your grudge has finally found a purpose." Yeah it does seem that...and maybe this will be the foundation for the series getting on a better track and moving more briskly and relevant-ly. The way this whole fight-the-pirates thing is setting up, it's gonna be kind of a clichéd standard storyline now--virtuous JB fighting the evil cabal--and it's disappointing to see the same characters being the major players once again. Can't we get a few new people in here? But at least now we're finally getting much more into the real JB history so hooray for that. And it's certainly going to be a busier storyline so it probably won't drag like a lot of the early episodes did.
It's a good thing that the Madam-Jami-visiting-Tang-again storyline ended quickly because the whole premise was infuriating and ridiculous. Madam Jami is a WAR CRIMINAL in Tang. She was imprisoned, nearly executed, and deported for providing weapons to a huge rebellion. There is no way in heck that two years later they're going to let her back in the country. That is just bad, bad writing. I know I get picky about plot points and continuity stuff and maybe it's too much for most people, but this one is way off the deep end.
JB wanting to go along with Madam Jami's middleman scheme: I think he's wrong. What he should do instead is spread the word among all of the other merchants, and unite them in a cartel so they share all the risk, wealth, and everything else, and bid one unified price. They wouldn't all be undercutting each other and contemplating huge losses if the facts were spelled out to them. Why isn't he doing that?
"Yes, everyone is out of their minds." Gotta love Master Jo. Best character in the series so far.
...Well I'll be darned, JB is doing the cartel after all. He thought it through correctly; took a while but he got there. The first speck of brain we've seen from him. But he shouldn't be taking on the sole risk of buying all that silk; no reason for it. Although he may be able to sell the stuff in Japan eventually anyway, so maybe not such a big risk. We don't know for sure.
...Wait, and now we know--yeah he can take the stuff to Japan and make good money off it. Madam Jami came off looking unusually bad on this one; she never gets caught off-guard on this kind of thing. But whatever, if we're going to take JB seriously then they'd better show him not being completely clueless and this is the first time he's done something insightful and intelligent business-wise. So this is a good development.
Unfortunately now there he goes telling Madam Jami exactly what his plans are. He's done this before and it's stupid. And guess what, his group's merchant ship gets attacked...and then Chief Yoo reports back to him that the pirates "knew our route." Shouldn't that have set off bells in his head, about who might know his plans? Ugh. Maybe the brain surge was temporary.
After investing so much time and attention on JB, Sul should really find somebody else to lead the pirate fight. The trust he puts in JB on everything, unconditionally, it goes a little far sometimes.
Seriously? Well when we finally do get the explanation for that glimpse of Jung-hwa we just saw in Mujinju, it had better be a doozy. Kind of disappointing to see her so soon. Yeah you can't help but wonder what happened to her, but the last two episodes have certainly been better off without any Eternal Triangle stuff in them.
Overall, though, some signs of life and promise from this episode. It's the middle episode in the series so this must be a planned pivot point in the storyline. Fingers crossed.
p.s. "Then did you overpower them and escape?" Chief Jang with the sarcasm, that was very funny.
