"I do have something to give Lord Yu, but I made a mistake and left one of the parts at home so I will return home with it and send it to him when I return." Why didn't it occur to Huije to just say that and avoid the whole mess? Sheesh, come on scholar, gotta be smarter.
Loved how Yi Cheon smelled a rat. But that fight scene, that might be the weirdest fight scene in any historical I've watched. It was just weird.
The painted wooden curtain behind Sejong when he was working in that office, I've never seen anything like that before in a historical. Anybody else spot that? What an odd design, almost jarring. Like false shelves with things on them--I think they call that trompe l'oeil. Not bad, just very different.
"He was an old man even when he was little." That was great. What an observation. In fact that whole scene with Hwang Hui and Ha Yeon, and the flashback built into it, an excellent scene--would have fit right into any of the top historicals.
I've mentioned this before but it needs repeating since it was discussed in this episode. Neither this series nor GKS has properly explained why a Joseon-specific calendar would make such a big difference in the ability of farmers to increase the country's agricultural output. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that it hasn't been explained. Even if they're using a calendar that's slightly inaccurate, why should a few days error either way have such a big impact on planting and harvesting? Seems like the impact of weather variations from year to year would far exceed any benefit from a better calendar. Wish somebody would explain this because it would sell the whole story better as being urgent and important. They did a great job having Yu Taegang explain the value of standardized time, so it sure would be great if they did the same for the calendar.
Anybody else think Taejong was looking way too good to be dying? Gotta love TV! Very unsatisfying death scene. Although the eunuch waving the robe and screaming "Please come back!" into the sky, that was cool.
Can't say I'm sorry to see him go, only because this more introspective, softer-side version of Taejong, no thanks it just didn't seem to fit.
Enjoyed watching the armillary sphere being built. And from photos on the Internet it looks like they got it exactly right--the huge thing we watched them build, that's exactly as JYS built it. Very interesting. But really, something like that with such explosive political ramifications, shouldn't they have built some walls or screens around it to keep it from being visible to people on the ground? Anybody else thing that's going to prove totally stupid before long?
