THESE DESCRIPTIONS CONTAIN SPOILERS
Seo/Go Family:
Mrs Go Bongshil (Kim Hae-sook): Main character. In the first episodes, her husband Mr Seo is murdered but everyone thinks it’s a suicide. She spends the rest of the series trying to hold her life together.
Seo Junsook a/k/a Mr Seo (Choi Il-hwa): Dies in first episode. Mrs Go’s husband, a successful businessman, he innocently got mixed up in smuggling national treasures because he went into business with two hometown buddies, the Oh brothers (see Hometown People, below).
Seo Juntae a/k/a Uncle Seo (Dok Ko Yeong-jae): Mrs Go’s favorite inlaw (but really, the only one we meet), he’s a musician who has an eye for the lay-dees--or they have an eye for him. He apparently had the luxury of playing the grasshopper because his brother was storing up family goods as an ant, but now he’s sorry he never saved any money because Mrs Go needs it. He helps the family as much as he can, and really, he’s a pretty good uncle and a nice man.
Yoonyoung or Yoon (Kim Min-joo): Mr Seo’s older daughter and Mrs Go’s step, very responsible, a little ruthless, a drama producer who’s holding her company and her family together by sheer willpower.
Kyungsoo (Kim Young-joon): Yoon’s husband, a drama writer and maybe an ex-lawyer? He hasn’t been able to sell any dramas lately, so he splits his time between taking care of the kids and chasing after ex-colleagues to try to get some work. He must be a good writer, because other writers are jealous of him and actively try to sabotage him.
Inyoung (Luna): Mrs Go’s only natural child, Mr Seo’s youngest. Seems sweet, but deeply spoiled and selfish.
Important Nonfamily People:
Wonsook (Kim Hye-ok): Mistress of the dead Mr Seo. Bongshil meets her in the first few episodes and ends up being helped by this woman in Seoul. A sweet, simple sort of person, very generous, doesn’t know how to take care of herself but always ready to help others. Wonsook's nickname is "Grace," and people who are close to her call her that. It suits her, except she's graceful in a sweet, innocent, childish way.
David Kim (Cheon Ho-jin): A mysterious rich, powerful guy who despite a sophisticated lifestyle, can’t seem to forget his roots (he likes country food for instance). He’s trying to get a power plant put in the region under suspicious circumstances. Seems to run some dicey businesses under very high standards indeed.
Soo-ae (Choi Han-bit): Inyoung’s best friend from childhood. A transgendered girl, very sensible and kind.
Hometown People:
Geumsil (Kim Young-ok): Neighborhood matriarch, runs the general store, Mija’s aunt. A very hard worker. Keeps out of others’ business (except Mija’s), but very opinionated nonetheless.
Mangeum (Woo Hyeon): A refugee from the North, apparently. The “sixth only son of the only son”, physically weak, he makes an exciting discovery in an herb that is grown in Mrs Go’s greenhouse. Simple, sweet, hardworking. In love with Mija, much to Geumsil’s disapproval.
Mija (Park Jun-myun): A strong, hearty sort, madly in love with Mangeum but under the thumb of her aunt Geumsil.
Mandeuk (Shin Chung-sik): Neighborhood grumpy old man, interfering busybody and miser. Not as bad as he sounds, but rather a schmuck. We learn he had a family once, including a son he hasn’t seen in years.
The Oh brothers: Elder Jincheol (Lee Ho-seong) is a petty gangster and a smuggler who put one over on Mr Seo and caused his death too. Nobody suspects this, and the Seos think he’s a good friend. Younger Byung-geun (Lee Soon-sung) is more of the sniveling type, under his brother’s thumb, but feels very very guilty about it.
Seoul People:
Dongsik (Jung Seong-woo): David Kim’s chauffer, bodyguard and devoted employee. He doesn’t “get” the country boy thing, but he tries to respect it.
Risoo a/k/a Versace (Harisu): Owns or manages a transgender club, she is also transgendered and friends with Wonsook, Soo-ae and Baldy. She’s pretty avaricious, and mad about the designer Versace, especially leopardskin patterns from a few years back.
Seokcheon or “Baldy” (Hong Seok-cheon): Owns the Thai restaurant next door to Versace. Flamboyant. Sweet.
Sungmin (Lee Sun-ho): Yoon’s assistant at her production company. General dogsbody. A good guy.
Jaesoo (Yoon Joon-sung): A rich boy, rather a goofball, madly in love with Inyoung, who pretty much barely tolerates him. He’s actually rather sweet and has a good relationship with his mother.
Niki or Nicky (Kim Kyu-Jong): A deliveryman who has a run-in with Inyoung. They spark off each other, which doesn’t look too good for Jaesoo.
Oh Eunmi (Lee Da-hee): Popular actress who screwed Yoon's production company. Having affair with husband of Junghyun (below).
Lee Junghyun (Sin Eun-jeong): Big-time actress who informally retired from acting to marry a "prince." Clearly based on Go Hyunjung--look at her character name. Yoon desperately trys to get her to appear on her show to replace Eunmi.
Heo Kyungmi (Image of actress (can't find name)): Another actress (introduced in Episode 16), who is David Kim's ex-girlfriend. Definitely wants to get back together with DK. Definite personality problems. Not a nice person, but also clearly has a fragile ego.
Dr Wow (_______): An herbalist and acupuncturist of some reknown. Mrs Go asks him for help identifying her mysterious herb.

Kim Nakyuung (_____________), Yoon's natural mother, who first arrives in Ep.33 or 34.
