MOE Ep.6:
Jiwon figures out who Sunwoo is, befriends him and helps him. When Jangil finds out that Sunwoo is Jiwon’s “dream boy,” he makes a fool of himself and pisses her off by demanding she stop volunteering so much and wasting her time with some blind guy instead of being with Jangil. He never admits he knows Sunwoo.
Jangil makes a half-hearted attempt on Sunwoo’s life. Sunwoo continues to pretend he can’t remember anything. When Mr. Lee finds out Sunwoo is staying there, he goes ballistic at Jangil’s apartment. Sunwoo overhears, but pretends he didn’t. Jangil drinks with Sunwoo, suddenly thinks Sunwoo is hiding something and begins beating on him. When Jangil passes out, Sunwoo says to himself: "My dad visited President Jin and never returned. Jangil got a scholarship from PJ. Jangil tried to kill me and now I'm blind. And now I'll never forgive him." We learn the fate of Sunwoo’s earlier gift to Jangil, and it’s sad.
Soomi tries to attract Jangil, but then sees him again with Jiwon. At home in Pusan, the scams of her father Mr. Choi have caught up with him and he needs money. Blaming Soomi, he writes a letter. Later, she catches him mailing it but apparently doesn’t put two and two together. She tells him to forget the past.
Jangil, drunk, shows up at Soomi’s place one morning with the gift of a guitar. She drags him home, only to be caught by Mr. Lee who assumes she’s some sort of hussy who is after Jangil. Dad later visits Soomi at school and insults her further with this supposition and a plea for her to leave Jangil alone. Not surprisingly, she then snubs Jangil at every opportunity.
Mrs PJ tries to assert her ownership over her husband, buying him a suit. It seems PJ, talking in his sleep, mentioned Eunhye. Later, PJ visits his stepdaughter, who sings for him. She wants him to support her plan to marry a poor musician over her mother's certain protests. He tells her love is nothing to count on, she should favor her mother over her boyfriend.
Then PJ hears that Taejoo has come to Pusan. Taejoo, at Sunwoo’s old house, remembers his conversations with Eunhye, who thought PJ didn't really love her and was certain PJ would force her to get an abortion. Taejoo said PJ did love her, but she said, "I wish I loved you instead, Taejoo." This was too cruel, as he did love her and always had. He also remembers being arrested for embezzlement, thinking that PJ would help him. As Taejoo leaves Pusan, PJ passes in his car (they don't see each other). “Moon Taejoo,” says PJ, then something else, not translated. [Dang!]
At the blind people picnic, Jiwon injures herself and Sunwoo insists on carrying her. Their relationship continues to develop. Eventually, she reads books to him personally that are not available as books on tape. Jangil later finds them at the institute, Jiwon singing to Sunwoo. Adding insult to injury, she’s using the guitar Jangil bought for her. Jiwon looks pained and plays on. Sunwoo, apparently oblivious to Jangil's presence, sits there smiling. Jangil looks down at Sunwoo, then at Jiwon, and smiles too. Hea-vy.
NOTES:
Just how long exactly was he in this coma? I can't tell. But EXCELLENT making like a blind guy. Creepy the way he almost seems to look at people, though, but not like it's bad acting--more like a threat. However, I believe if you were not born blind, these habits of looking at people when they speak are automatic.
I love how Sunwoo calls Jiwon “Hemingway.”
Why does the assistant speak English to Taejoo but Taejoo speaks Korean to him? Weird.
Stevie Wonder? REALLY?
