SBS Green Bean Flower(2019) Expected Air Date : April 2019 Writer : Jeong Hyeonmin(KBS Jeong Dojeon) Director : Shin Kyeongsu(SBS Six Flying Dragons, SBS Deep Rooted Tree) Time period : King Gojong of Joseon Dynasty Synopsis : Two brothers face each other in opposing sides during Donghak Peasant Revolution en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donghak_Peasant_Revolution Jo Jeongseok(Lee Pengheon in film Face Reader) has been cast as Baek Yigang, the main character. Han Yeri(Cheok Sagwang in SBS Six Flying Dragons) has been cast as Song Jain, the female lead. Yun Shiyun(Lee Hwi in TV Chosun Grand Prince) has been cast as Baek Yihyeon, the younger brother of Baek Yigang Choi Museong(Jang Seung-gu in tvN Mr.Sunshine) has been cast as Jeon Bongjun en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeon_BongjunThe actor's name value shows that Jeon Bongjun will only be a supporting character as I expected. He's playing a person from the same timeline as Mr. Sunshine. I think Jeon Bongjun's character will be pretty similar to the one he played in Mr.Sunshine too. He was the teacher for the female lead in Mr. Sunshine and he's probably gonna play the same teacher role for the male lead in this drama.

I'm leaning towards not watching it for now. I have a feeling it's going to be Mr. Sunshine Season 2 or a late 19th century version of Six Flying Dragons due to the director.

SBS Haechi(Early 2019) Writer : Kim Yiyoung(MBC Yi San, MBC Dong Yi, MBC Horse Doctor) Director : Lee Yongseok(SBS The Great Seer) Time period : King Sukjong of Joseon Dynasty Synopsis : Prince Yeonying(a.k.a King Youngjo) overcoming all odds to become king. The title "Haechi" refers to a mythical Asian animal more commonly known as Haetae in Korean and Xiezhi in Chinese. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiezhi This drama just began in Korea on Monday, so I watched few clips of this drama on Youtube. Cons 1. Characters talk like they're 21st century people 2. Main villain that young King Youngjo has to fight against in this drama is a fictional character who never existed 3. The Noron faction comes out as the axis of evil in the drama, but they were actually the faction that backed young King Youngjo in history 4. It's like if no class system exists or people don't take it very seriously. Saw a video of peasant girl talking to Prince Yeonying(young King Youngjo) as if she's some girl in 2019 talking to a new guy friend she made in college. Granted, he is keeping his prince identity secret during the scene but is still dressed like a nobleman and a peasant girl would never talk to a noble like that. This scene is especially laughable after watching Kingdom, which had very good representation of Joseon's class hierarchy. How a fantasy drama about zombies(Kingdom) looks like a more legitimate historical than a drama about real people is beyond me. 5. Looks like Park Munsu is going to become Prince Yeonying's blood brother according to the trailer, which never happened in history. 6. Fictional love story with a fictional character named Yeoji although they might turn her into Crown Prince Sado's mom later on. Pros : N/A SBS apparently claims this is a "traditional" historical. My response : No, it's a fusion.

The Associated Press is reporting that North Korean television is currently airing a historical drama called "Wild Ginseng Gatherers of the Imjin War." No specifics were provided beyond the obvious that it's set in the 16th century during the Japan invasion.
Kim Jong-un, I'll make you an offer: Open up your borders and I'll put your historical in the timeline. Deal?

I've seen only one episode of a historical drama made by North Korean hands. Apparently in aired on KBSWorld. Six Martyred Ministers, which is about the rise of King Sejo. I happened to come across it by chance nearly a year ago. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhtWstHD6nk

Deal? www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPmpIBD9uYYI found a link to the 1st episode on North Korea's official state propaganda channel. All episodes have been uploaded by the North Koreans. I remember reading a news article about how the North Koreans don't watch their own historicals because they are so boring and most of them just watch the illegally smuggled South Korean historicals from China like Jingbirok and Jeong Dojeon. I've seen only one episode of a historical drama made by North Korean hands. Apparently in aired on KBSWorld. Six Martyred Ministers, which is about the rise of King Sejo. I heard it had lower ratings than the daily early morning national anthem time on TV lol.

I can't say I was bored when I was watching it, though that being said it didn't exactly excite me either. Its pretty rare to find any media made by North Koreans, which was what drew me to it to begin with.
I dig the opening song though, even if I don't understand the lyrics (I recognized the words "sound of a door")

Haven't watched Six Martyred Ministers, but I watched about 3 minutes of the North Korean historical that I linked above and was surprised to find that the actors speak in almost the same "historical drama dialect" as the South Korean historicals and not the stereotypical North Korean accent.

I don't know which is more annoying. The continuing prominence of isekai anime (fantasy genre where a character travels from the world they know to an unfamiliar one) or Kdramas in which characters get sent to a different time period.
