Ep.62-
Song tells San he shouldn’t be talking to a lowly damo about his feelings. He tells her, “I’m not your king, I’m the man who loves you. If you don’t return with me to the palace, I won’t go either.” Elsewhere, Wook learns from Mr Nam that San is there.
Wook advises Song to go with the king and that he’s waiting for her under a tree at the end of the lane. Confused, she takes a very long time and thinks she missed San, but he steps from behind the tree. She declares her love. He notices a bleeding scrape on her arm, ties it up with the sash and tells her not to hurt herself any more. They tearfully embrace. Awwwwwwwwwwwww….
To bring the matter to a conclusion, San tells his attendants to prepare Song for his bedchamber that night. Gossip spreads to Dowager Hye (who earlier was livid to learn that San went to Kyoho and halted concubine selection). A frightened Song is brought in to San. Outside, D-Hye faints when she hears he’s retired already. San apologizes to Song and tells her they won’t be doing anything that night, he’s just forcing his mother into a corner.
However, she isn’t so easily swayed. He points out that King Yeong-jo’s mother was a water-bearer. So? He couldn’t even hold a memorial for her; his ancestry was always a stone around his neck. She doesn’t want that for San’s heir. I know all that, he says, but no matter what, I am going to make her my concubine and her son the crown prince.
D-Hye meets Hyeoui with harsh words. She’ll never acknowledge Song, nobody else will either, and D-Hye will bring in another concubine to bear the royal heir. Hong and Sir Chae overhear. Hyeoui later tells San she knows he left Song alone and that he shouldn’t worry too much about his mother. They comfort each other with words. [Why the hell doesn’t he ADORE this woman? Sheesh.]
Mr Nam and Sir Chae comfort Sec’y Hong (because of his sister). Although Hong is fond of Song, he tells them it’s bad for San’s reign. They have words on the matter. Hong then bribes Prince Eun-un for his cooperation in the adoption of his son. He’s got a new name for the boy (“Wan Poong”), which is only done for royal heirs. Eun-un seems frightened, but Hong says it’s all arranged.
San tells his men to prepare for an internal war, due to his new trade reforms. Then Hong visits Tebi Mamah. T-M says she thinks the merchants were behind the assassination, not the Norons. She wants Wan Poong designated as Crown Prince ASAP to “stabilize” San’s reign. Outside, Lord Jang happens to see Sir Choi and Sec’y Hong in conference and is alarmed.
Uncle and Mak-soon learn of Song’s elevation from Artist Lee, full of gossip. Uncle has the magic touch, says Lee, get me in to do the royal portrait! Officer Kang sees Dae-su taking out his frustrations on the training ground, and Uncle comes to scold D-S for not fighting for Song.
Queen Hyeoui‘s Lady Kim thinks she’s offended Song, but Song reassures her. The queen excitedly gives Song a box of her own jewelry and some new clothing. Thanked for being so kind, Q-H says life in the palace is tough, especially since D-Hye might never acknowledge Song. But Q-H will fully support and help her.
Song tearfully packs up at Dowahseo. Chief Park wishes that she’ll never lose her artistic “heart,” even if she never picks up a brush again—she promises she won’t. Mr Tak is heartbroken that Song is leaving, wishing he’d made her his second wife. Mr Lee nearly smothers him shutting off such foolish words.
At Lord Jang’s house, a hidden Sir Min tells his man to “carry out the plan.”
Mak-soon has a tavern celebration with Uncle, Song, the damos and Mr Lee. Outside, Song finds a gift and goodbye letter from Dae-su, who hides from her. He wants her to wear the gift of cosmetics he bought, even though the palace has nicer ones. Sniiiiiff….
Song and San meet, dressed to be married, and giggle like schoolchildren. D-Hye refuses to attend despite her court lady’s advice, and says she’ll refuse even to receive Song formally.
San and Song have their first night together, and Hyeoui pretends she’s happy about it. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!! Poor Queen.

Gotta wonder how D-Hye figures she’ll be forcing San to sleep with another concubine instead of Song. I mean, they obviously got the connection, all he has to do is refuse to do it.
