Ep. 105
Min-joo meets w/ JY at a cafe and tries to make her feel guilty for
"causing" YJ to give up his life in Seoul. She says her usual rude and
insulting things. JY cries, but says YJ is acting like a fool -- that's why
he has to lead a foolish life.
She walks around outside, thinking. She calls YJ on her cell phone.
He meets her where she is. She's at the top of these large, outdoor, cement
stairs. She asks him if he'll reconsider going. He says no. She asks him if
he wants her to live the rest of her life w/ that guilt. He tells her she
should move on with her life, too, and forget him. She's visibly shaken and
unhappy.
She stands alone a long time in the dark later, in the park near her home.
YJ is in a local watering hole, trying to drown his sorrows in booze.
SM and MJ are at home taking pictures of each other with the baby. When
they're done, MJ tells Sm about YJ leaving for Bangladesh. SM looks
surprised and asks why he's doing it. MJ says he's going there to forget JY.
SM looks thoughtful and unsettled.
JY returns home to the sound of TY and MR arguing. We see them in their
bedroom ready for bed. MR is nagging TY to turn over his paycheck to her the
say her father did to her mother all their married life. Their argument
turns to playful rough-housing.
JY sits by the crib in her dark bedroom, lovingly admiring the sleeping
Ji-min.
YJ comes home from walking the streets after drinking. He sees his
grandmother sitting up, brooding. He sits next to her and tries to persuade
her to accept what he's doing (though, I don't know why, as that hasn't
worked so far with her). She's having none of it.
At the Jo house next morning, they're having breakfast. The mother advises
them to take Yuna to visit Woon-kyu as often as possible, so he may develop
an attachment to her. SM and MJ agree and say they will bring her there
soon.
When SJ leaves the house, the fired manager, Joon-hi, is waiting out in
front for her. She tells him he's not her manager anymore and he says the
agency won't give her a new one. She glares at him defiantly and marches
past him to her car parked out front, gets in and drives off. He gets in his
car and follows.
SJ goes to her agency and tells the supervisor she wants a new manager. He
asks her why and she says they're not compatible. Joon-ha shows up just
then. The supervisor tells her she's at a critical stage in her career and
she needs to focus on that and not waste time with trivial matters. She
walks out glumly and Joon-ha follows. He stops her to say he won't bring up
his personal feelings again, and asks if that will make things ok. She
doesn't answer and walks off perturbed.
MR and TY are having dinner at her parents' home. They have a meaningless
conversation about who gets which piece of chicken.
SM and MJ arrive outside WK's apartment building with baby Yuna. Ms. Jo is
just coming out to go home. They exchange banter about how her work is
going. She admires the baby.
In his apartment, WK holds the baby. He asks questions about how she's
doing. KH comes in just then w/ NY. KH says hello to all of them and NY nods
hello to WK, but then sees SM and stares at him w/ startled displeasure. He
stares back at her equally surprised and displeased to see her. Without a
word, she turns and leaves abruptly. KH runs after her.
SM asks his father if NY is KH's girlfriend and WK says yes. SM suggests his
father have KH move out, saying it's forward of him to bring his girlfriend
into the house. WK says KH is better company for him than SM. MJ smiles and
says that's good. SM looks troubled.
Outside, NY apparently has told the story of how SM betrayed her sister to
KH. He is very surprised to hear this, saying he respected SM. He says he
knows NY feels bad, but suggests she simply forget it. She shakes her head
angrily and it's obvious from her expression she will never forget or
forgive SM for the hurt he brought her sister.
Grandma is at home with baby Ji-min telling him to stay healthy so as not to
worry his mom.
JY is at a bar with her friend Joo-yun, really putting them away. Joo is
laying into JY pretty hard about how wrong it was of her to hurt YJ the way
she did, leaving him so broken and lost, he's ready to throw away his career
to run off somewhere distant to forget her. JY is getting pretty smashed and
she gets very emotional in the conversation and begins crying. She goes off
to the ladies' room to wash her face. While she's in there, Joo-yun calls YJ
on his cell phone and gets right to the chase. She says she's with JY right
now and she has something to say to him. He asks where they are.
JY comes out of the ladies' room and drains her glass. Joo says now it's her
turn to use the powder room, gently pressing JY's shoulder as she passes
her. JY is pretty drunk and she hangs her head over the table, miserable and
a little wasted. YJ shows up and sees her through the window. He goes inside
and approaches the table. When she sees him, JY starts to leave but YJ stops her. He tells her he's glad Joo-yun called so that he could have the chance to say goodbye to her.
YJ's car pulls up by the river. He goes around the car and opens the door on JY's side. He tries to get her to get out of the car to get some air, seeing she's drunk. She shoves his arm away and lets into him angrily. "Didn't I ever mean anything to to you?" she cries out angrily. She tells him just knowing he's in Seoul with her gave her the strength to live. She begins crying and says she guesses she must not have ever meant that much to him and that must be why he's leaving. "Just the fact that I'm living in Seoul isn't enough for you?" she asks him, sobbing. She sits in the car sobbing broken-hearted. He says nothing but just stands there staring off, looking like he's been blind-sided.
His car pulls up by JY's house. He gets out to go around to let her out. She gets out slowly, devastated but composed. She looks at him sadly, then says "Take care of yourself." He nods once, then asks, hesitantly, if he can hold her. They go into each other's arms and clasp each other hard and close. Tears stream down her face. He holds her looking sad, but calm. Then he pulls away and heads off. He drives off and she stays where she is, staring off as he drives away and is out of sight. Tears are pouring from her eyes.
Seoul Airport. The group of volunteers are gathered together, awaiting departure. The group leader is taking roll. He smiles when he gets to YJ's name, seeing that YJ is there. When roll call is finished, people go off to use washrooms before meeting at the gate for the plane. YJ stays where he is and leans against a large post, deep in thought. JY's tearful, drunken words come back to him about how she must never have meant much to him and that's why he's leaving. It's clear her words have affected him deeply.
End. No previews.
