There were about 3 omitted scenes from ep. 103 that aired in this morning's broadcast. For those of you who didn't see or record this AM broadcast, and for goofy, for whom I'm recapping every day through tomorrow, I will describe them here:
Young-joon goes into a building that turns out to be where the office is for the volunteer group he's joined. He meets with an administrator there who points out there are plenty of ways to help and to serve without leaving Seoul, and without giving up his job. He has reservations about YJ going to Bangladesh and questions his true calling. He worries that YJ may be wanting to go for his own reasons -- to run away from something -- not because he's committed to helping victims of famine and war. YJ denies he's running away from anything, but doesn't say anything convincing. He only says he'd like to leave as soon as possible. The administrator says he sees a sadness in YJ and it worries him. The volunteers with the greatest dedication who go to places like Bangladesh find it very rough going; if you don't have the dedication, you'll never make it through. He also says you have to always be able to smile; you can't go with sadness and a heavy heart, or it will ruin you. Even though the administrator has his doubts, he lets YJ attend a film screening for volunteers going to assignments and we see him looking at a movie screen with images of Bangladeshi natives.
Ki-hoon and Na-young are having a picnic in a pretty place in the countryside. Na-young is surprised to see that Ki-hoon has packed a whole picnic lunch, including a cake. She asks about the cake and he tells her they have to have one to celebrate their 200th day anniversary. LOL! She is startled, and obviously had no idea they've been going out for 200 days, and she hasn't taken note of the date. Ki-hoon asks her if she remembered it, and she insists, uneasily, that of course she has. He puts cake symbols on the cake that say in English "I heart YOU" with the letters spelled out and a heart symbol for the word love. He says he's loved her for 200 days and hereby commits to loving her for 2000 more...5 years, four months and some days, he calculates. Not sure, but my guess is he's calculating the time until they marry and is considering this an engagement. He then presents her with a little box that he opens to display two pretty silver rings with small stones in them --- his and hers. Couple rings, he says. He puts one of the rings on Na-young's finger, then tells him to put the other ring on his finger, which she does.
He then asks her what she has for him, and it's obvious she's totally floored. Me? she asks. Yes, "give and take" he says in English. She has no idea what to do and looks almost mortified for a moment. Then, hesitantly, she instructs him in a whisper to lean in closer. He does a little, but she tells him to lean closer still and close his eyes. He does and she nervously gives him a quick peck on the lips. He opens his eyes and grins a big greean, then says her name tenderly. "What?" she asks, and he begins to lean in slowly for a bigger, slower kiss. She looks about ready to let him do it, then pulls back at the last second and squishes cake frosting in his face playfully. He looks surprised, then chases her and they tackle each other in good fun.
And that was it.
I have to say, especially I'm enjoying the writing for Na-young and Ki-hoon...it's just so sweet and believable. These two are so cute and natural together, and I can really feel the sense of them falling in love together in a very sweet and tender way, which is also very innocent. It's a refreshing break, too, from the painful scenes of YJ getting drunk every day, fighting with his grandmother and stalking JY, and of JY awkwardly running into the 3 people who represent the most pain in her life (YJ, SM and MJ), yet finding it compulsory to go to cafes with them for awkward, difficult meetings every time it happens....for no good reason I can think of (other than dramatic value).
