Gang Jo over thrown corrupt king and Kim Chi-yang's rebellion and tried to restored the Koryo court then Khitan invaded Koryo 2nd time. Gang Jo led his army and fought Khitan and died bravely at the war. His death ended Khitan 2nd invasion. Then another famous general Gang Gancham finish off Khitan's 3rd invasion by killing most Khitan's army. Now seriously guys . . . if this was the storyline of IE (instead of the current fictional mess) wouldn't we all be raving about how great it is, rather than lambasting it???

Ordinarily I'd have relegated that information to the spoiler thread as historical spoilage. But the way the series has gone, I suppose there isn't any point.
And yeah, there certainly wasn't any need for the series to go off into spaceland like it has. There seems to be the idea that if the main character in the series isn't squeaky clean and heroic, people won't watch. We can thrash all this out when the series is over, but I don't agree with that notion at all.

And, the thing is, now that they're finally trying to turn squeaky clean Hunae into a bad girl, we see that she's only being "bad" for the greater good of Koryo. Her methods may be abhorrent, but her motives are still honorable and pure. Now, if Hunae really WAS being portrayed as a bad girl, I think I'd be having a lot more fun watching!

Mikey, If you want to see "bad" or "frisky", you might enjoy the movie "Untold Scandal" with Bae Yong Jun.

Actually, I much, much prefer Heroic Women over Bad Girls. But, given that the real Hunae was a wickedly decadent woman, one can only imagine how much we could all be enjoying this show (admittedly, in perhaps a perverse way ;D) had the genuinely talented actress Chae Si-ra chosen to play it straight as a historically accurate Hunae. My guess is that Chae could have blown our socks off with her performance . . . but sadly, we'll never know for sure.

Since I know nothing about Korean history, and I am grateful to all of you on these boards who are enlightening me, can you please tell me the historical truth of all the women warrirors?

I Hate to say this but as far as Asia the answer is close to none . The closest thing in Korean History would be the Shilla Queen Seon Deok and she never fought, She was the patron of the Hwarang and thats about it , Vietnam has the Troung Sisters who fought the Han Dynasty . Japan has 4 well doubts on the first of course if she ever existed was Tomoe Gozen both consort and auntie to Minamoto Yoshinaka who was killed in battle by his cousin the famed Yoshitsune than Tomoe leaves the story . moving to the 16th century ,Tsuru Hime (Princess Tsuru )was the youngest sister of the Daimyo Ouchi Yoshinaga ,when his vassal Sue Harukata rebelled and forced Yoshinaka and family to commit Seppuku ,Tsuru a Shinto Priestess led her band of women warriors on the high sea's near Hiroshima in a quest for revenge however she was killed in battle but her death gave her ally Mori Motonari the chance to catch Harukata from behind and defeat him forcing him to commit seppuku .her ghost still haunts the area and there are many shrines to her . Oman was the daughter of a minor lord who stood up to Hideyoshi beating him in battle several times until he captured her father and forced her to become a concubine to save Dad . To the end of the Samurai era 1868 with the Tokugawa Shogunate gone the collateral fife of the Tokugawa Family Aizu tried to surrender but the new Meiji Govnt wanted to punish them regardless as they were a Tokugawa Family ,however most of the adult Samurai of the clan had gone north to Hokkaido to make a final stand with other Tokugawa Malcontents leaving behind the Byyako-Tai (White Tigers )a group of some 200 14-17 year old boys and the Joushitai the female version ,sadly they were no match against the modern weapons of the Meiji Army ,this is now considered a very tragic event in Jp History . to read the whole story of the Byyako-Tai and the Joushitai complete with photo's go to www.shinsengumihq.com . China again not much Hua Mulan is probably fictional like Tomoe Gozen and the women of the Yang Clan who fought the Khitans i covered in the Empress Dowager Xiao post . pretty much women were trained as the last line of defense like Nobunaga had women guards when he was killed at Honnoji Temple all Samurai women were expected to fight to the death rather than surrender but only when all hope was lost ,in other Asian Cultures Women Warriors were very rare though there were women Guerrilla fighters in the Imjin war only because they had no choice save being raped and killed . The stuff you see on Films and Tv is pretty much a fiction .
