I remember a discussion here a few weeks ago about the prevalence of incapacitated people being carried on other people's backs in Korean dramas. This is certainly true of YH... just think of how many times we've seen this, or heard reference to it. Does this really happen so much in Korea? Yesterday, Grandma Sohn and Hyun-ji find Young-joon unconscious w/ fever in his apartment. They don't call paramedics...instead, they have Grandma's driver carry YJ on his back. Grandma says to take him to the hospital, but I notice they ended up taking him back to Grandma's, w/ no explanation why the change in destination. Not only that, but the driver had to carry YJ all the way upstairs to his bedroom on the second floor. Couldn't he just put him down on the sofa? LOL! Also, did anyone else catch this? Grandma referred to YJ as a "brat" again as he was carried upstairs. LOL! She just can't seem to get past running him down, she's so mad at him. Btw, weird isn't it how YJ and JY both got fever the day after he went into the lake after her? My husband says maybe it's "lake fever", famous for that particular Chooncheon lake. LOL! Maybe some local industry uses it to dump toxic wastes. Jade Eyes

Since there's a three month or so lag between Seoul and Chicago, I wonder if it was to tap into the SARS issue, which was big news then.

Since there's a three month or so lag between Seoul and Chicago, I wonder if it was to tap into the SARS issue, which was big news then. Wow. Do you really think it was a "tap into" the SARS issue? I have to say, I'd be really surprised if that was true. Btw...it's more like a 2-month gap, than 3-month. YH first hit the airwaves in Korea in Jan. It reached "Stateside" in March (first airing here 3/26, I believe). My take on the sudden fever of the two protagonists was they were stricken from grief and broken-heartedness, an effect intensified from "catching a chill" from the lake waters. It's a favorite theme of melodrama in all cultures, going back centuries and visited often. Because I know people really can't and don't get sick like this, I was joking in suggesting their mutual fevers resulted from some pollutant or parasite in that lake. There was nothing about it that reminded me, even remotely, of SARS. Jade Eyes

Since it was never mentioned, and both soon recovered, obviously not meant to be SARS. Just a fleeting idea I had.
