Well, we're coming up on the episode that Mikey in L. A. said would "hit us like a two by four" I'd been toying with cute possibilities, but then I saw tonight's teaser.
I can't have seen what I think I saw portended! They CAN'T get. . . and they surely can't stay. . . Can't be, right?

I thought I misunderstood the preview. But you saw that too? This show is breaking my heart! PLEASE let it just be a dream sequence! I couldn't take it if the only couple who married the one they truly loved were MJ and SM! Where is the justice? ?!?

I saw the previews too and had the same reaction...my verbal reaction was the same as the title of this thread. ;D
My husband thought it might be a dream sequence, too, but no...it's not. It seems YJ does get engaged to the leech, unbelievable as that may be. Ack! He must feel so defeated and lost in his state of heartbreak that he figures "What difference does anything make? I may as well throw my life away!"
I sure hope he comes to his senses soon and buys Hyun-ji a one-way ticket to the US and puts her on the plane himself.

>:(i'm soo mad, i can't believe YJ got engaged, but then again it's only an engagement, those can be broken, cant't they ?, and after today's episode where it seems JY will see JY again in a very crucial moment, maybe something will happen and he'll decide to break off the engagement, wouldn't that be nice ;D?

But, I think the show is still running strong in Korea, so there will be lots of forthcoming plot complications. Months from now, we may be saying "Wow, I can't believe xxxx and yyyyy did THAT! And we thought episode 90 was jawdropping!" Even so, I sure didn't see THIS coming. Of course, my crystal ball always says "Reply hazy - ask again later"

Mariah, I think Young-joon rushing into an engagement w/ Hyun-ji is not at all a sign that he's gotten over Ja-young. I think just the opposite...it's a sign of how low and despairing he feels right now. He's crushed and broken and feels nothing matters anymore and that he'll never be happy anyway, so what does it matter who he marries or what becomes of him? He's hurting so bad, it's almost like he thinks he deserves to really suffer by marrying someone he not only doesn't love, but no longer even likes. This is kind of like what Sun-joo did when she realized she couldn't have Tae-young...except at least she got engaged to someone pretty neutral. Young-joon is thinking of throwing his life away on someone truly despicable who has made his life a nightmare, and who has teamed up w/ his grandmother to deny him the happiness he ought to have.
And I don't think you'll have to wait long before Ja-young's baby is born. From the previews today, it appears Ja-young goes into labor in the next ep.
And yes, Ja-young is basically a very kind, good and unselfish person. But in a way, she's made her own bed of rocks and broken glass to lie in right now. Instead of allowing herself the happiness a modern-day person would strive for, she is acceeding to the whims of a stubborn old woman for no real good reason. Not only is she denying herself the right to love and joy, but she's also bringing heartache to a very kind and good man who has lavished love upon her. I can respect her devotion to tradition, but she's taking it too far, in my opinion. How many of us would cheat ourselves out of a life w/ someone we were truly crazy about because our parents or the other person's didn't approve? In the end, we have to live for ourselves and do what's right and best for our own lives... not live through the commands of an elder who has a different vision for where they want to see our lives go.
And don't count nuptuals out for our heroes just yet....so far, YJ is only engaged to Hyun-ji. They're not married yet. Sun-joo ran away from her engagement...perhaps Young-joon will do the same. Let's hope, anyway.

Hi, this is Mikey from L. A. Glad to see everybody reacted just like I did a few weeks ago when this episode ran in Los Angeles (we're on #105 in L. A. now, so if you're on #91, I guess we're actually almost 3 weeks ahead of you guys). The engagement party scene was really telling. Hyun-ji is going about beaming like a state lottery winner, while poor Young-joon looks like a man who's spirit has been completely, totally crushed. No, I don't think it's an "on the rebound" thing; it looks to me like Young-joon's just more-or-less given up on his life. How sad! Won't give anything away for the future except the obvious: rest assured that this enagement will not be happy times for Young-joon

MI-RYUNG IS JAP- AND I DON'T MEAN JAPENESE- HAS ANY ONE BREACHED THE SUBJECT OF MI-RYUNG AND THE WORKER AT HER DAD'S OFFICE THAT IS COMPLETELY EMPHATUATED WITH HER? DOES ANY KNOW WHERE I CAN GET RECORDINGS OF THESE DRAMS WITH SUBTITLES, I TRIED A KOREAN VID STORE BUT NO SUBTITLES!I 1. When you say Mi-ryung is a "JAP" then, do you mean she's a "Jewish-American Princess"? I will admit she's fairly spoiled and rather childish, but she's certainly neither Jewish or American, so I don't see how that applies. 2. When you refer to the guy in the messenger office (Yong-sik, I believe is his name) as "emphatuated" w/ Mi-ryung, do you mean "infatuated" (as in "has a crush on")? As for have we discussed it, there's not much to say, I don't think. Now that Mi-ryung is married to Tae-young, it seems any potential there is a dead-end. And this is a little off-topic, but I think the word you're looking for is "broached", not "breached". Breach means a lapse or failure in duty or consistency, as in "security breach". Thought you might like to know for your own edification. 3. To the best of my knowledge, Yellow Handkerchief is not available anywhere w/ English subtitles. I've seen this question asked by many people, and what I've heard is that English subtitled videos/DVDs for YH are not on the market. Perhaps eventually, but not at present. Finally---and this is another total aside---it's my experience w/ internet message boards and discussion forums that posting in all caps/all uppercase is considered extremely bad netiquette, i.e. bad manners by general consensus. It's tantamount to shouting, and many people find it hard on the eyes. I presume you do it to save yourself the bothersome trouble of having to use that pesky shift key. Yes, working that shift key over and over is a major cause of carpal tunnel syndrome, I know. Here's a suggestion: if using the shift key is simply too much time or trouble for you, try using all lowercase (small letters). It's just as fast and easy, and most folks find it less annoying to look at. Jade Eyes

Whoa, JadeEyes! Now just cool down, and take a nice, deep breath!
There, don't you feel so much better now?
But yes, I agree that the expression "JAP" (Jewish-American Princess") might be a bit offensive. I don't think it was deliberately meant that way, but these kinds of ethnic expressions are usually best avoided among polite company.
And yes, absolutely . . . please, please, PLEASE let's not do the all-caps thing. It can be truly exasperating to read!

And here I thought I was showing such admirable, cool-headed restraint and subtlety! Ok...sorry, Deb, if I came off sort of preachy or whatever. I didn't say anything about being "offended" by use of the term "JAP" -- though i know there are those who would find it so. What I said is I don't see how the term applies in any way to Mi-ryung. She is neither Jewish, nor American, which is approx. 66% of the equation, don't you think? In what other sense does Mi-ryung resemble such a thing? She's not married to some wealthy lawyer, doctor or business owner and she doesn't have a Guatamalan maid, she doesn't shop at Neimen-Marcus and Bloomingdale's all day, she doesn't have a nose job, she doesn't go to Mario Tracocci to get her hair bleached, her legs waxed and her nails done; she doesn't get liposuction. I mean, come on now...if we're going to talk stereotypes, show me where Mi-ryung fits in! If MR was anything like a Jewish American Princess, how likely is it that her mother would drop by to see how she's getting on and find her running around a room completely bent over, wearing a hanbok and happy, absent-minded grin, cleaning the floor w/ a rag in her hand? I mean, I don't even freakin' do that and I don't have a maid. I use my Ready-Mop TM! I'm sorry, but I just don't see how that characterization works for MR in way, shape or form. But I am sorry if I sounded at all *itchy. I'll try to be nicer. Jade Eyes

I think the Jewish-American prefix is the only description her parents haven't yet attached to their favorite "Princess".

I just don't see how the analogy works. You may as well call her an "Uncle Tom" or a "Mob Queen" for all the sense it makes.
I don't see why Tae-young doesn't have her come down to the office to help him out. Korea isn't a 12th century mentality. Women there do work. Why does she have to hang around the house all the time, cooking and cleaning? And what's her thing w/ stealing food? Kind of an odd fetish.
