Did anybody recognize the gambling game that was being played at the parlor in this episode? They were using long, thin cards that seemed to be made of a thin wood--definitely thicker than regular playing cards. No big deal; certainly not crucial to understanding the episode; I was just curious.

Yes, I did notice and I thought it was far more civil than throwing rocks at one another .... although the old 'card-up-the-sleeve trick' prompted some expected male bonding

Also, I believe there is a game similar to what you are describing in modern dramas, where everyone sits around and gambles on the floor, and they throw these long sticks to get their "hand." I saw this in "Who's My Love" and also (maybe) in "Old Maid Diary"--but I may be misremembering. Old people would play it. But I don't know the name. Bo

Bo, these were more like bookmarks ... just flat pieces of wood with writing on it. They were not sticks. I hope we can find out what that game was.

Maybe, the game was 'too-jeon,' which could be traslated into 'fight of bookmarks' although they were not bookmarks. It needs 80 'bookmarks' and was very popular during the Chosun dynasty. Kathleen34, I totally agree with you - 'Bookmarks fight' is far more civil than 'stone fight.' TheBo, what you saw in IYSS and 'Who's My Love' are different from these bookmarks.
