EPISODE# 80
Empress Wu might be in a tight spot right now but I'm sure she'll work it out. She is very shrewd and cunning.
I can't believe the Khitians are still hanging onto the hope of getting Zhinzhou after all this time.

Episode 81 Shin Hong is going to blow his top one of these days! He looks like a sleeping volcano, but the quivering lips show he's on the verge of erupting. If his designs are thwarted one more time... look out! Li Kaigu may be right behind him, not volcano-style, but I think he's either going to crack or become completely despotic. Good timing on Mimosa being interrupted in his conversation with Guemlan, NOT! So who is his 'master'?! Is is DJY or not??? Good issue with food, lack thereof, stopping DJY's army. That sneak Shin Hong. I wonder how Li Kaigu & Chulin will react when they find out he defied Li Kaigu's orders. Lot's of good stuff in this episode!!

EPISODE# 81 In episode 81, I also thought Dae Jungsang was going to blow a gasket. His face got all red when he was yelling to Xue Rengui to please let them leave. All they wanted to do was spend the rest of their days in their homeland. Yeah that rat Shin Hong is taking things upon himself and ordering people around. Who does he think he is? I really can't stand him. Ugh !!!

Ep 83 Still getting adjusted to the 12 year time jump. Zowie! So, Sudol and Auhong are married! How sweet. Nothing going on with Biwu though. The Emporer(ess) seems to be on the road to paranoia. She brutally made her way to the top, so yeah, everyone wants to take her down. That's got to mess with her mind after a while, doesn't know who to trust (or worse than usual for the Tang Palace), ends up making bad decisions. When I heard about her plan to go after the Khitans, I thought she was going a bit wacky, ie: turning her back on the people who helped her get to power. Making herself into a goddess just confirmed my thoughts. If she ruled without being ruthless, her government might have been more stable, able to rally itself to defend against the Turk attacks. Geom's messanger's getting caught was weird. I thought they left right away, so how would Li Wen's men have time to set up an ambush?! And how come the Khitan's haven't noticed that they're being followed around by Li Wen's men? I could see out in a crowded market place, but this is the command center. Interesting to see Dae Jo Young 'persuading' small tribal leaders to be on his side. He 'strong-armed' them, though I suppose with inter-tribal fighting they would all be wide open to an attack by any larger army, whether it be from Tang or Li Kaigu on his own.

EPISODE# 83 Yeah they could have skipped some of those boring, ridiculous episodes that seemed to just be filler since DJY was never in Tang anyway. Some of what happened during the missing 12 years could have been interesting, especially Geom growing up, DJY and Sukyoung's children at least seen when they were born, and Heuk Sudol and Auhong's courtship and marriage. I was glad HS finally got his woman. They are a cute but strange couple. They could at least have shown us a little of DJY and the others rebuilding . Just a quick montage of these would have been nice. Then we went through the aging process with some characters and the changed hairstyles and facial hair. Most of them I don't like. I liked Heuk's flamboyant mustache the way it was. I miss Gulsabiwu's braids and Li Kaigu looks worse than ever. I AM glad DJY got rid of his Mrs. Brady (Brady Bunch) hairstyle though. It's about time the Khan got a little riled up though. Of course he might be chickening out saying they should not act in haste. How long can he remain so naive about acquiring Yingzhou? How many years has it been now? Nothing the Empress does surprises me. I knew she wasn't going to give them the land. I thought Shin Hong and Li Kaigu were supposed to be so smart. Why have they put up with this for so long? Then again Shin Hong has his own agenda. We've seen the "paranoia" in previous dramas like IYSS and AOW by power hungry leaders. Even if a leader is good and honorable, there will always be some who would covet the power, but at least you'd have a lot of people loyal to you to willingly watch your back. It was good the way DJY united the tribes by offering assistance to those in need and having a common purpose. Yes, you'd think Geom would have sent out competent men to deliver the message to his "father" and they would have noticed they were being followed IN THE DAYTIME!!! Li Wen seems to always be around like a fly on dung. Why is he still alive anyway? I hope Geom turns out to be an honorable man and someday find out DJY is his real father. He also played a King in AOW and he was honorable for the short time he even got to reign.

A montage covering the 12 years is an excellent idea! We could have also seen them changing their looks as well.
As for Li Kaigu, his change in appearance reminds me of how deep he has gotten into Tang culture: he’s abandoned his Khitan look for a Tang general. I often compare his path in life to Dae Jo Young's. LK hitched his wagon to the Empress. He gained a lot of power and experience, but his goal of an independent Yingzhou seems as far away as possible. And as we’ve seen in Episode 83, the Empress completely turned her back on him (the paranoia thing again, or just plain ruthlessness). I think LK’s mistake is in believing he would be able to extricate himself from Tang someday.
Brilliant 'sensing' on LK & SH's part of never-ever trusting anyone at any time, and so suspecting anything and everything to come from Tang. (another skill I believe was honed in the Tang court) (To bad the Khitans didn't become suspicious well before 4 whole hours had passed at the celebration.... seems like they've lost their edge.)
Geom is still very young and inexperienced. I think this shows in the content of his message to LK. Geom should have only sent the message for LK to return home for Khan’s birthday celebration. Spelling out the coup was too overt!! Back to Ep 83: Li Wen! He’s worse than a blasted bastard with the torture. What more did he need to get out of them?! Everyone seems to get the opportunity to say this to LW: "I should have killed you when I had the chance!"
Great cliffhanger at the end!!! ;D

EPISODE# 84
How has Gulsabiwu kept this secret for so long? How could he not even confide in a friend? That's a BIG secret to carry around and not tell your "brother" about it.
If Li Kaigu saw Goem kneeling and pleading for help from DJY, he would have had a fit. It's something he'd never do. A lot of misery could have been avoided if the Khitans would've joined forces with Goguryeo in the beginning, but they were blinded by acquiring Yingzhou and believing the lies of Tang.

The suspense is killing me!! Tonight (in phila) will Biwu’s last words be, “Jo Youngi, Geom is your son!” as Chulin slashes Biwu, or will Chulin herself reveal that fact to the father of their son? And if the truth is revealed, will DJY say, “Ha! I already knew so!” I have a feeling he already knows. (could be totally wrong… probably way out there.. how could he know…)
