What a scene between Dae Jun Sang and Xue! DJY's father taking such a personal risk to visit Xue to beg for the life of his son! I thought the "flashbacks" moment that Xue was experiencing was particularly effective. We, too, were able to relive the meetings of the two great warriors and how their lives crossed paths over the years. The respect that Xue has for DJS is apparent and when DJS knelt before him, Xue was at his best. Xue was so uncomfortable with that simple act because in his own eyes he knew that in many ways DJS was his superior. Xue wasn't in the warrior class, but had clawed his way up to the position of power he currently holds. He was the classic outsider who due to his valor, persistence, and bold risk-taking managed to succeed in the face of the hatred and indifference of the Chinese military elite. DJS on the other hand was one of the pillars of Goguryo and of that coveted warrior class. The best part, however, was when Xue, himself, knelt beside DJS. The affection and respect Xue holds for DJS is something that the likes of Li Wen could never understand. It is the blood bond between warriors who gave their all for their emperor/king. If I had to choose the best scene in tonight's episode, this is it.

this is so fake! DJS would NEVER kneel before Xue in real history. i'm not just saying this because i'm Korean, but because Xue Rengui is executed at an early age in real history as he keeps losing in battles.

The scene between Xue Rengui and Dae Jung Sang was moving and touching, great high drama. When the show departs from fact is where we must allow for suspension of disbelief because it is historical fiction. Sometimes that drives us crazy, but I admire the consummate acting that the two perfomers showed in episode 72. Another example of suspencion of disbelief is when people, especially the three brothers, are being beaten, yet never sustain serious injury.
The times when XR was emotional (of the episodes I saw) were usually times when someone he looked up to humbled himself before him. Remember the scene with King Bojang, when he begged XR to be allowed to address the Goguryean peasants, and later when he did so from his "paddy wagon?"
Of course, the exception to that general rule was when XR was with Geumlan. But even then, he is touched when someone's actions penetrate his heart to reach his humanity. Appeals to him as a warrior are doomed.

Man!
i had to miss it getting my daughter's passport!
Knew i should've tried to tape it...oh well...maybe when it's on AZN in a few months...
Truth -- i know it's fake...but given the alternate fictional world...even though i didn't see the scene, based on how they developed Xue Rengui, i can see how Goguryeans (in the show) might have some mutual respect of him, when talking one-on-one
If we can accept Dae Jo Young's accomplishments so far, then we can do so in this case.

It was excellent! It was one of the best scenes that I've seen for quite a while. It was a great piece of acting, and to see a great general like DJS humble himself before his life-long rival, just to save his son, was worth watching. And to see Xue actually break down ...that was something. And yes, Truth, we know---but it is a drama so we have to expect this type of thing.
