AAGggh! That is so funny, and hurtful, and shaming . . . {but true, about Americans} On those shows, the audience says "Ahhh" for just about everything, though. I think it might be fake, like a laugh track. It gets annoying. I've seen that health show before. They rated the stars on their bone health or maybe it was their posture, or a combination. There were some typical tiny, pretty actresses, and they didn't do so well. HA! I think it was because they were not robust enough to have strong, healthy bones. (To be fair, one of them had a touch of scoliosis and that's why her posture was a little off.)

I don't know about Korea, but when I was in Japan a few years ago, I saw no fat people at all, anywhere. Here, all I have to do is look in the mirror

Agreed! Actually, one time I was at a live music show where there was only standing room, and it was not only hard for me to see over the taller people around me, but I felt that there was an unusually large number of big, burly guys around jostling me and continually blocking my view. I turned in frustration to my friend, who said, "What can I tell ya? It's the land of plenty!" I'm no sylph myself, but I think that if you are also TALL you should stand at the back (just kidding) or at least try not to step on/dance on/crowd out the little folk around you.

Lucy! Have you ever seen "As Time Goes By"? Lol Ferris and his 7 brothers "dating" little Sandy! You just reminded me of that. So funny.

Bo, I have seen many episodes of "At Time Goes By," and I know who Lol and Sandy are, but for the life o' me I don't think I've ever seen that element of it. I really like that show, even though I don't like Geoffrey Palmer much. Ju-di-Dench! Bictory!

Lol and his brothers, all of whom are "big guys" like he is, are all in love with Sandy. And one evening they send in a note via Mrs Bales and ask Sandy to the tavern on a date. (This was the episode where Lionel "drove out" the City b--tards who were tearing up the town with their Range Rovers and generally acting like the townspeople were their villeins.) So she sat at this little table in the pub that evening and all of the "boys" sat there looking smitten and vying to purchase beers for her, and standing up and yelling at anyone who said Lionel wasn't a hero. It was cute.

Oh, that is so adorable. I can just see kind little Sandy perched there, nonplussed but very polite. Sorry to everyone else for temporarily hijacking this thread. Now back to our regularly scheduled ramen-related chat.

Yeah, how can he actually open a restaurant where people not only make their own food (this part I get), but they put those little flavor packets in? He's using instant ramen! The stuff that costs 69 cents at the superomaket! Good grief.

And what the h--- is cheese ramen? YUCK. I don't think cheese would go well with Korean flavors.

You are thinking of European-style cheeses, like cheddar. There are some cheeses that are similar to tofu, white and bland; they might work. Or a ground-up hard cheese, like parmesan--that might work.

There was a scene in 'To Be With You' where the recently discovered birth mother of the older two sisters buys a pizza for the younger two. It is 1975, when pizza is apparently still a novelty in Korea, and the youngest says, "I don't want it! It smells like garbage!"
Her older sister tells her, "Oh, that's cheese."
Cheese on French onion soup is good, so maybe it would work on ramen, too.

I had a French friend who loved to go to the movies, but when she first came here she couldn't stand the smell of movie theater popcorn. (They didn't have popcorn in France at the time.) Nowadays I agree with her. That milky, half-spoiled smell . . . If I'm hungry, it smells good, but it's way too strong at other times.
