I'd want to start putting furniture in front of the bedroom door, it probably doesn't have a lock. ScreechMom feels like it's her right to control every single thing. I would have blown my top so many times already-"Come home after your yoga class, don't go anywhere." Yes maam, shall i kiss your shoes now? As she says, housework never ends, get me a glass of water. Cripes, bah, :r fooey etc

But I do think the writers have really gone overboard with Ok jin's character. She is just way too much. In young, after all, has an educaiton, has professional skills and experience and has a very loving family. She really does not need to take the abuse of this demented MIL. ( actually, i don't thik that they've gone overboard. most asian mother-in-laws really assert their power. i mean, my mom wanted to be a journalist and her mother-in-law made her change her entire career plan and then my mom had to become a department head of the english division in a high school. those are two different career paths. i just think that most people aren't used to seeing mother-in-laws behave so meanly, so it seems strange. but, sadly enough, i don't think that if you stepped into 6 out of 10 asian households, their mother-in-laws wouldn't be controlling the household from top to bottom...

Bae your grandmother must really be a matriarch of her family. But from watching most of these K-dramas, it's good that your mother was allowed to even work. So far I've seen MIL's having their dil's quit their jobs to become homemakers for the household and having their husbands be the bread winner.
Giving up her dreams and aspirations to be what your grandmother wants is really a hard decision to do. Your mother is trully a remarkable woman.
Somewhat like what IY is doing for her MIL. Except with IY she not only have to be a homemaker but a baby maker as well.
Just my opinion!!!

Yea, I am scared of my ma. Thank goodness she's not like Screechy Mama, though. I don't think they've gone overboard with Ok-Jin, either. Sometimes when I watch her screaming at In-Young, it reminds me of my certain member of my family of older generations ::shudders::. Plus, many others around me all agree that asian mamas are the scariest, heh. But it is true that they do use their authority. I know lots of asians older than me, adults, who have been pushed into careers by their parents and in-laws, only later abandoning that and pursuing their own careers choice, left with the feeling that they just wasted their time on the way to their true goal.
