why does the family have to treat the son like a baby. he is 25 years old. if he wants a motorcyle let him have it. why does he have to ask. i dont understand it.

yeah, but the problem was that he can't afford to pay off that expensive of a motorcyle. for his grocery-store-working situation, paying off a motorcyle for 3 years will be difficult for him. he's not the most frugal man in that family.

Seems like there was the aspect of him hiding his purchase, too, since he lives with the elders,, he probably should have discussed it with them beforehand. Of course, they would have said, what, are you crazy! and he knew they would have said no way.

Being from a frugal family, I think they were shocked that he bought it in installments, not having the money to pay for it upfront. Perhaps they were expecting "rent" from him for his living expenses, but won't have anything left from his supermarket job.For age 25, Inchul seems very immature. Mung-ji (?) seems to want to motivate him to do better while Sun-mi enjoys him as her drinking buddy.

It seems to be expected that when the young adults start working and are living at home, they give the elders an "allowance." Still, I don't really think it's only about the money--the money that he spent or the money he's supposed to be contributing to the household. It's that he made this decision without telling anyone and hid it from them. From my American perspective, I can't really agree that what he did was so wrong, especially if he is earning as much as Sun-mi said he was. Didn't she say 1 million won per month? That's like $1,000 a month, right? So he only paid $3,000 for it. And if he put all his money toward the bike, it would be paid off in three and a half months. That doesn't strike me as so extravagant. Surely they could let him have the bike and find something else to break his spirit over later, since apparently they are all dedicated to making him toe the family line.

seeing as how in-chul yesterday told grandpa that he had no money to even buy food... i can see the family's concern!!! if he can't even buy food to feed himself, where's he going to get money to pay off the motorcyle bills from?

It seems like he went directly to a new bike shop, when he should have looked at used bikes. They aren't as bright and shiny, but kids just starting out should be frugal, like Mijung. He seems to be impulsive. I'm actually surprised the mart hasn't fired both of them for arguing all the time and going outside while on the job.

You just know that In-chul and his motorcycle will not last, but will teach him some sort of leason. At least, it'd better! One of the great eye-openings of becoming an adult for me was, when i was a child and later, a teenager, there were so many things I wanted, and thought, "Man, if only I had the money!" Then I got an apartment and a job, and I had money! Trouble was I still had to eat, too. And pay the rent and bills. I bought some of those things as things went along. But most were resigned to the "What was I thinking!?" bin years ago In-chul's motorcycle is his dream. But he will be surprised at just how fast that dream loses its importance. I know I was. note
I still would like to have a Vespa scooter, but most of my "Man. I wish I had . . ." thoughts these days involve furniture and plumbing fixtures. Call me middle aged! ;D

i also think that in-chuls family is trying to teach him responsibility and him buying a bike without a second thought is kind of irresponsible. on one hand thought isint it also irresponsible by making a grown man making his kind of money continue to live with the family? if i was him i would think it was okay to buy a motorcycle too since theres people at home who feed me, do my laundry and make sure i was well takin care of. i wouldent have a second thought either if i had no resposibilities to begin with.

Now InChul has crossed the line by lying to his father. Grandfather surprises me by encouraging that. They are both going to be in big trouble with father and aunt. Younger sister looked appalled. Maybe InChul got in trouble a lot when he was in school and father thought/hoped the military would straighten him out.

They haven't really been specific, but they've made it clear that In-chul has a history of getting in trouble.

I think In-chul was more of a rebllious son that In-kyung is as a daughter. I think In-kyung is more like her older sister in respect to listening to the elders.

In a lot of other asian dramas that I've seen (not Korean ones, this is my first K-drama, so I don't really know if it's the same), the chicks in the family are usually seem to try to be better in terms of behavior and the guys are more on the rebellious side.
