The scene where Sangsik told his father in front of the family that he was the cold rice (or leftover, I forget) was a really great dramatic moment for the actor and the development of the character. Prior to this, Sangsik seemed in many ways so repressed emotionally. Especially toward women. Finding out as a kid that (using kids's logic) he was the cause of the death of his mom was a stunning revelation. It is very hard for a boy to grow up without his mother as it is the mom who gives the male child his sense of sexual identity, just as Daddy does for girl's (Happy Father's Day!!) It sheds light on his treatment of Goeun as well. She disappeared out of his life as well, (when she married the other guy she "left him")just like Mom! And his problems with Lee Ha-Na. That relationship seems conflict driven. His hugging his father in front of the villa at the end was so powerful. It's a good reminder to love our dads while we have them and that we're never to old for either their wisdom or embraces!

I think you have two characters confused. I'm still not good on the names, so I'll use numbers.
Son #2 is the one married to Geon
Son #3 is the one who was accused of getting a junior pregnant, and then had an outburst about being resented by the family and hearing as a child that he was the cause of his mother's death (by virtue of her being pregnant and giving birth to him). But, yes, it does explain his ice-cold reactions in certain situations.
Cheers,

Sangsik did not get anyone pregnant ... he merely introduced his junior to one of his male co-workers ... the girl was dumped by that co-worker after she told him she was pg .. so the girl went to Sangsik and told him he was responsible for her getting pg ... that's what Hana overheard ... but he approached the guy and told him to do right by the girl or else he would hire guys to beat him up LOL ... last scene I think the girl was beginning to miscarry .. Hana was driving Sangsik to the train station o get the girl and take her to hospital. That's all I got to see ... Soapygrams

Snag-sik is just so closed off; if he'd open up more, a lot of the misunderstandings he falls prey to wouldn't happen.

But, yes, it does explain his ice-cold reactions in certain situations. Cheers, Right! Sangsik is son #3. The point I was trying to make is that when Goeun came back into Sangsik's life after her marriage to #2 brother (his name slips my mind at the moment, too bad he's a good looking guy!) Sangsik had trouble forgiving her and accepting her as his sister-in-law. He told Bro #2 that it would take time. Elsewhere in an earlier thread called "Sangsik", his prior relationship with Goeun was discussed. They used to go to the movies and hang out together when she was dating bro #2. My point is that he was deeply hurt when Goeun left Bro #2 for "the other man". Since Sangsik was a boy when his mom died and he had no sisters, only the older aunts and the two grammas, he lacks an ease with women. He seems emotionally tied up and ill at ease with them--his friendship with Lee Ha-Na is built upon trading insults and until recently, he utterly ignored Goeun's overtures of friendship. My humble hypothesis is that since his mom died when he was young he has trouble forgiving women when they act in ways he dislikes and that when Goeun left his bro it was, for him, like a "death". His relationship with her as soon-to-be brother-in-law "died". When she returned, he was angry. (Is this too much psycho-babble or what???)

yesterday's episode dealing with sangsik was really sad. as a child that lost his mother early and hearing from his grandparents that his birth was the cause of his mother's death must have been a hard thing for him to deal with. it made sense that his birth did make her health weaker but still... it must be pretty hard to deal with and misunderstand his grandparents when they said that ... especially since he was a young child. sidenote: wasn't joon super-cute when sangsik was holding onto him? anyways, what did you guys think of Lee Hana? do you think she crossed the line into something that was completely none of her business? i think sang-sik was right in telling her that it wasn't any of her business to begin with and had no right to go tell his family about her suspicions. she was angry and trying to get revenge but still... she's a nosy little thing. does anybody know if the station cut out a scene from when lee hana was telling jiyuen about what happened? all we got was jiyuen saying "you did what?!"... i was kind of glad to see sang-sik and jiyuen getting along.... it was kinda sweeet...

for the very first time, I came to really like and respect Sangsik. The hugging WAS a very strong scene as physical affection is not shown. And it certainly was a two-way hug.
Sangsik has carried such sad guilt all his life. As for Hanna, that's a hard one. Playing the devil's advocate, whether Hanna knows it or not, I think she cares deeply for Sangsik. She realizes that she way overstepped some serious boundaries. It seems to have humbled her. For Sangsik to take responsibility because he introduced the pair... how honorable is that! For all his goofy behavior, on Saturday evening he matured right before our very eyes.
... good writing, good acting.

I think she's losing it. She's gone from kooky to borderline nuts, and her annoyance factor has increased dramatically. Her emotions are sometimes inappropriate and she is getting too involved with the family. She is being selfish and childish insisting on living with Yoon-sik and Ji-yeun after they are married. I guess her forcing herself on their engagement trip was just the tip of the iceberg. I felt sad for her when Sangsik basically told her that he doesn't care anything about her and she is nothing do with his family. She seemed to have thought that her being interested in him meant that she had some rights, but everyone is acting worse toward her than before. I think her position in that house is going to be very uncomfortable.
