Are you talking about Winter Sonata? There is a forum on it here in "off air" shows--we called it Winter Love Song.
Bo
PS - we loved it

no... it's Sad Sonata it has this one actor called Kwon Sang Woo and this other one that was in Yellow Hankerchief(the guy who's marrying Han Ga In) and a girl but I don't recall seeing her too often so I'm not sure what her name is... It came out about two months ago...

my mom is actually watching this movie now, and i've dropped in the room a couple of times to see what it's about.....so far all i know is that it's about kwon being in love with this blind girl and he goes to ny to start his bar buisness so he could be with the girl.
i' actually really want to see the movie myself, but it' has no englilsh subs yet.

has anyone heard the music for sad sonata? is it worth to buy the cd soundtrack? i need new music!!!! I keep seeing the video for it on International Channel. When Revolution is on, I think it's 8-10 p.m. cst The song that I've heard is okay, if you like that R&B ballad type music. It looks like a really good drama too if the video is based on the drama.

A quick review.
Picture Quality : A+. Better than Winter Sonata. Action : A. Lots of fists flying, even a gunshot or two. You don't see Yon-sama in street fighting. Here, you have two hunks fighting for the love of their lives. Acting Quality : A. Kwon Sang Woo is really on a roll here. Kim Hee Sun's finest acting effort so far. These two really look great. Music : A. A Killer OST. Sadness : A+. Sadder than Winter Sonata. Story : F. The poor plot killed the series, period.
The problem was the storyline. This drama was originally written for Song Seung Hun in mind, with Kwon Sang Woo as the supporting charactor. But with Song Seung Hun sent to military boot camp, the plot was completely rewritten in two weeks to reverse the roles; what was supposed to be the lead character suddenly became the supporting character and the supporting character became the lead charactor. Song Seung Hun's last minute replacement was chosen solely for his "availability" and was widely considered a miscast. The plot is much different from the "music video" that made too much a strong impression of Song Seung Hun for viewers to forget.
Had the original plotline survived, it would easily have overtaken "Winter Sonata" as the most influential TV series of all time in Asia. But the last minute rewrite eliminated Song's younger years, and Kwon's younger years had to be stretched to fill the void, making the drama look slow paced and boring initially, and the series never recovers. And too much "impressions" from other shows make the series repetitive.
Other than the flawed plot, this show was an A+ effort; great pictures, great oneliners, great acting. Sad Sonata tanked in Korea. Will it fly in China and Japan??? I do believe that it will take off in Japan. Winter Sonata too was a flop in Korea but took off elsewhere, and Sad Sonata does have that potential in spite of its problematic plotline. I am not too sure about Chinese markets, because Chinese market is already too exposed to somewhat repetitive elements of the show, unlike Japan where Korean dramas are just taking off.

Oh my god, I love SLS (Sad Love Sonata/Song). I dunno, for some reason, I love it more than I love Stairway to Heaven. I've watched up to Episode 15? Maybe 16? I'm not really sure, as my memory sucks. But I'd recommend you to watch it, as its my favorite Korean drama right now. It's soo sad, except in the beginning where they are kids. Hae-in and Joon-young's childhood is so well portrayed that it's one of my favorite parts in the whole series. Also Kwon Sang Woo's in this, so that'd probably make it to be one of the favorites of about half the Korean drama-watching female population xD

Keep in mind, I'm actually Korean, so if you guys are viewing it with subtitles it might not be as good as the actual words. I dunno, I've been to sites with translations, and frankly, they suck xD And what Trespasser just said is very true. It's a pity they had to change the plot at the last minute...

If I'm not mistaken, this is playing on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at approx 10:30am - no subtitles. It replaced Tropical Nights in December.
