Just to point out possible misunderstandings of this drama - it is NOT about cruelty of a foster parents.
Rather, it is a story of a son who returned home to revenge his rich mother who abandoned him in the first place. The whole story focuses on the main character's sense of betrayal toward his birth mother who "dumped" him and his attempt to get a revenge. The part about Australia is nothing but a background.
The truth is, many Koreans know for a fact that Korea's chronic problem lies in too much emphasis in the bloodline. Korea is a country of very low adoption rate, even within the nation. So after the ending of this drama, its staff opened a special campaign to raise money for single mothers who sometimes are forced to give up their child to adoption agency because of social prejudice.
In Korea these days, what we're actually witnessing is the children adopted back in 60s and 70s finally grown up and visiting their birth-land to ask a single question "why". No matter how well they were loved by their foster parents I guess it is hard to shake off sense of grief that they were "abandoned" in the first place.
The only reason the main character had a bad childhood simply has to do with producer's effort to add more tragic air to him. (Ah, you people might understand how Korean dramas could really push one character to the hilt by now ^_^; ) For those who wish to see a melodrama even stronger than Winter Love Song, this one is totally recommandable.

so ji sup is so cool in i'm sorry i love you.
better than his role in what happened in bali imho.
speaking of korean children adopted overseas, the story of ibyang-ins (adoptees) and our sense of identity is certainly fascinating. there is a very good film made by a korean-german not too long ago that explores the ibyang issue.

The first show aired for me last night on satellite...the first scenes were not impressive. My DH said - this is a show for kids!
But as the show progressed, we could hear the "sad" music and knew there was more to it than the ridiculous beginning. After seeing the end (final scenes) of epi 1, we are definitely watching the second one tonight to see if we stay "hooked."
It seems like it's going to be a very, very sad show.
