Neato - wasn't there some difference too between the black and white panda and the red panda? I thought the black and white pandas were thought to be related to bears but the red pandas to racoons.

You're right. The black and white pandas were originally grouped with the red pandas. But these red pandas are more related to and even look like racoons anyway. Now the panda bear is officially a real bear. I think the confusion arose because pandas are known to only eat bamboo while their new world cousins are carnivorous (like the polar bear) or omnivorous. Even other old world bears such as the asian black bear and sun bear weren't exclusive with their diets. What the scientists should do in addition to changing the scientific names is at least change the common names to avoid confusion. Either the red panda should be given a new name or the black and white panda since they're no longer related.

Although tare panda likes to pose as sushi, he doesn't like the idea of being eaten. Awww! How cute! I have an LCD cover for my cell phone that features Tare Panda on sauna rocks and it annoys the heck out of anybody who is not used to it because they are always like "I can't see the numbers!" Amateurs, you just have to angle it to the right position and stare really hard into the phone. I'd give up Hachiue's left pinkie finger to cuddle a cute panda cub. ;D

Um, you'd have to have my left pinky finger first. And while I was considering trading it to you for that awesome cell phone cover, I realized that the cover probably wouldn't fit my phone. So, no dice, wenchy.

I seem to recall that bears are a kind of pig. That's why the females are called sows, and the males, boars.
Old Disney shows keep rattling around in there...
