Yo all, Basically a very simple question - which version of the Dae Jang Geum DVDs should I get? So far, I've found the Malaysian version (which I THINK has so-so subs), the Ultimate Gift Collection 2 (which is a little pricey), and finally, the MBC version, which I THINK I cannot buy as I'm not in the States (UKer here). Thoughts?

If ya don't understand Chinese, get the Yesasia's version. Although it's pricey, i heard that the english sub is top notch. The english sub for the Malaysian's version is crappy...but the Chinese sub is quite good....

Hi Mrdini I agree with Evange, the Malaysian version which I have (PMP) is very poor. Yesasia's version is very good and very expensive but if you want the MBC version...unfortunately the subtitles are in Chinese then you could try an eBay store based in the States: Click link pro.channeladvisor.com/storefront/viewad.asp?spid=20052430&aid=15276098 for details. It's only US$40 bucks plus shipping. (about £35 all in) Incidently I bought my Emperor of the Sea DVD set from this store and their services are great! Hope that helps uk fan

Mrdini Please check out the site, the DVD are NOT, repeat NOT Bootleg but it hasn't got Eng Subtitles so I guess that is useless to you. So the solution is to find a "friend" in the states to get you the DVDs. I sure if you ask nicely there might be one or two who visit this forum who might be willing to help you. By the way what on earth is AFAICT? ukfan

Hi mojo You can try www.eBay.co.uk and type in The Jewel of the Palace and there are at present 2 suppliers. The version they are supplying do have English subtitles and is produced by PMP Entertainment company. The negative side is the quality of the English subtitles is not great but is adequate. A better version is by YesAsia but the supplier is not allowed to supply to Europe! By the way I live in UK and I have the PMP version and it is ok if one is not too particular. Hope that helps uk fan

Ch' onmaneyo Mojo ;D Glad to be able to help. As I have said the English subtitles is not perfect mainly because of poor grammar, spelling and some of the words used were simply not right for the context in which they were used in. But viewers should be able to understand the drama nevertheless, so don't worry! Yes, I know London quite well, I spent 4 years in London when I was at University there. This was years ago though and I do visit London occassionally. I live in the North East of England about 400 miles from London, and by the way I am not English, I'm Chinese! I must say I do admire your culture and I have learned a lot just by watching DJG and since then I have bought 2 other Korean dramas (Damo and The Emperor of the Sea) and 10 Korean films...all have English subtitles of course and I have enjoyed every second of it! Well done to you all and through watching Korean dramas and films I myself have come to appreciate and understand my own culture too, so Kamsa-hamnida to all my Korean friends, you all should be very proud of what you have achieved! Till next time uk fan

I hope you are successful with your bid on eBay! Yes, both the Chinese and Korean Cultures are very, very similar and we even share the same writing until a few hundred years ago. By the way I don't read or write Chinese but I do speak the language (badly) though like majority of overseas Chinese ;D Personally, I like to see the North and South Korea unified and it is very depressing to see the ongoing sufferings in North Korea and what we have now is one great korean people divided by 2 political systems Anyway, let's hope this issue will be resolved before long. Incidently, I have watched both; " Taegukgi" and " Silmido" and these are excellent films. They have given me a better understanding of what actually went on during the Korean war and after the war...it was really tragic ... tragic About DJG, the two characters who have the greatest impact on me were DJ (Lee Young-Ae) and Madam Han (Yang Mi-Kyung) and from what I have read on the Internet these two actresses have all the good qualities of the characters they played in DJG....I wish them all the best and I hope they know they have fans in UK too! Oh yes, I have yet to try Kimchi! I could not get it here but I am still trying to find an online supplier. ;D Kamsa-hamnida and Annyonghi gaseyouk fan
