I am sure you did not notice but it was "complete" holistic therapy by DOCTOR Jang Geum, even foot therapy. I could say that is my main interest in life but not so complete as even acupuncture. Notice gong past the palace doctors' routines!
Notice something coming up from her LITTLE girl life as a 'spark'? Possibly some virus that is caused by pricking of a thorn that happened to many. Which was the added porridge 'mix'.
Who did the king see first, not the queen but the ugly puss of JG. Focal point and as the END of the episode.
Another day yet this weekend. My fav girlies in jail AGAIN as AOK.

I also think JG is quite pretty.....she has big, sparkling eyes, lovely skin and a beautiful smile. And in the show, I recall that a number of the male characters found her to be very attractive as well.... including the kindly Jeju guard, the well-meaning but simple palace physician Jo, her foster father Mr. Gaung, etc. And let's not overlook the gorgeous Sir Min who is totally in love with her.......! External beauty is also certainly enhanced by a person's sweetness, kindness, goodness, honesty, integrity and energy!!

OK. JG was IN JAIL and stinking (you figure that no water/toilet). She was sweating w/the king. She did not have LIGHT shine on her as other scenes.
She was UGLY, smelly, stinky. Ya gotta LIVE the scene!

Ya gotta LIVE the scene! Okay, so you're saying b/c she was working hard, had been up all night, was sweaty, was probably a little odorous after her stint in jail, etc., that she was less attractive. But some people find the qualities received from such hard work enhance a person's looks. Although superficially, they might detract from seeming refined, they add a certain character to a person. And, havin just cured him might have a certain appeal, as well. It's all in the eye of the beholder, anyway. But I have a question about the acupuncture (which I've had a few times myself) to anyone who might know. Why did she look at the needles as she pulled them out? I guess I was always relaxing and never paid attention to what the doctor did while pulling out the needles. Cheers,

Good question, I've been wondering about that too. Does looking at the needle allow you to know how far it went in, or if there is any blood? Does the needle change color, etc.? I've also received acupuncture, acupressure and moxie treatment before, and it has helped me to understand the meridians, chi energy, etc. as described in the show. I don't have much knowledge of the specifics, however, and find it very interesting.

Let's just say you can learn MORE by looking. Anything ON the needle can be information. Totally important. It is all a-la-natural, as her LOOKING in the kitchen. ABILITY. Not a thing strange about that. I can only find the observation of the needle PRIOR insertion to look for burrs, ridges. I imagine removal is only looking to see to make sure it is not broken off (anything like that is standard) but that does not require the close examination like this. It looks like observation for chemical reaction with the metal. Same as in a demo video on the CD. Now if you want a computer CD with the basics, not a self help manual: www.hoptechno.comI only use needles to take out slivers.

I also noticed how hard JG was working. She went far beyond what the other doctors had done. Much more holistic. It looked like she was up all night rubbing the guy's back, with no one even offering to help. And then he asked what her name was and hesitated to reward her in any way?? Lessee, she's (1) saved the life of his son at the risk of her own; (2) caused the Chinese amba-s-sador to acquiesce to Korean desires at risk of her own life; (3) captured notorious pirates at risk of her own life; (4) saved his mother's life at risk of her own; (5) saved his wife's life at risk of her own; and (6) saved HIS life at risk of her own. Can't he even remember who the heck she is? Sheesh.

Jang-Geum is definitely a self-starter, self-taught, and self-made. In many ways she represents the best of the Neo-Confucian work ethos; too bad, the patriarchal system is not able to judge her beyond her gender and social clas$s.

Now, if she was MALE his eyes might have lit up? ARGH! Freaky.
