Everybody, everybody, everybody do that shoulder dance!
I was laughing through the entire (Monday am/Friday pm/Ep 43) episode. Lady Choi thinking she got the upper hand, then losing it...Lady Choi getting the upper hand again, then losing Keum-young because of that "last incident" (hoist by their own petard!)...Lady Choi thinking she's going to get the upper hand with the head physician, then being told by Sir Choi, No! You're losing it!.
Hah, hah.
And those rats, abandoning ship... Sir Oh, first, then the head physician, and the fair Yeul-e. Did anyone else see Young-ro's pretty little brain churning? "Maybe it's time I hopped off with the rest of the rats!" Hah, hah.
And I figured someone must have helped Jang-geum even though she seemed to have been killed, but I never figured it'd be the queen! How exciting. The queen will do anything to help the king. I know he's the seat of her power, since she does not have a son, but she also seems genuinely interested in his health and well-being.
I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow. (Although I have an idea because I watched the previews.)
HAH HAH! DO THAT SHOULDER DANCE!

And...they did not show JG drinking the poison, but I wonder if a scene was cut out? The eunuchs seemed to be taking elaborate precautions (with good reason) for any watchers to be fooled that JG was killed. I wonder if there was a scene where JG drank the "poison" and fell down "dead"? Since she shows up in the queen's chambers (and wasn't that good set dressing, with JG on the floor and the queen on a high "platform" (chair)), we could conclude she really was drugged, not poisoned.

I don't think Young-ro is smart enough to pull that off... if she tries she'll really botch it and the Choi's will throw her to the wolves faster than you can say "your grace is immeasurable". Matter of fact, the Choi's would throw her off a sinking life raft in an instant.

I agree---------Episode #43 was one of my favorites-----so much happened!! Thank God the Queen has a heart and a brain!! She must believe that she knows JG well enough and trusts her integrity (and her medical knowledge) enough to hope that JG might be able to find out if a misdiagnosis was made. That's why the Queen is one of my favorite characters!

I'm really wondering how much I miss w/night episodes but the queen told her "DO IT". The emphasis of the whole episode.

That's why the Queen is one of my favorite characters! BELIEVE ME, she's one of my favorites, too. Besides the deliciously evil Lady Choi. Bo

I love the queen! She's very sweet. Even though I know that she had to be this way historically, anyway, I like the fact that she's not jealous of the concubine(s) or whatever they're called. I just like the way things are, I guess. Not that I advocate it for today, you understand, but within the world of a drama, it's nice to see.
I also like to see the scenes with Lady Lee (I think that's her name?), the girl who was so scared and young when she first went to the king's bed and is now just like a funny and sweet girlfriend (with powers!) to JG. I don't think the story would be half as much fun for me without her providing some kind of relief.
I'm new to this--what's a shoulder dance? Something funny JG's foster parents did and you guys picked up on?
BTW, how did they get to be her foster parents? I thought Lady Han was her foster mother up until her death, at which time JG was a full-grown adult, anyway.

Walter, y'all are so sweet, pretending Young-ro did not jump ship because I hadn't seen it! She ran straight to Yeun-seng (Lady Lee) to get her to protect her sorry butt (oddly enough, Yeun-seng probably has enough power to do that right now). Weeping like a baby. 'I didn't mean to do that! snivel' Unless they did not show that scene Saturday night? I was glad Yeun-seng did not let her off the hook. Perhaps she's taking backbone lessons from Lady Min (of all people).
It's funny about the Chois. They would turn on anyone in an instant if it was to their advantage, yet they simply cannot conceive of betrayal from Sir Oh, or even from Yeul-e. It's like they think they have such a powerful sway over everyone that they don't even have to worry about betrayal, even to the point where Lady Choi is beaten and tortured and in jail, and Sir Oh is "always out" and she STILL thinks he'll rescue them. He never even visits them in jail. What a great guy!
Lucy, the shoulder dance is the one JG's foster parents did when they found out "the witch was dead"--maybe they did not show that scene either, Friday night? It just seemed so appropriate to how great it felt to see Lady Choi fall, even for a while. I felt the same way when Lady Han and Jang-geum were beating her out for Head Kitchen Lady. Hah. Hah. Dance.
Lucy, did you know that Lady Lee grew up with JG and was Lady Jung's protege? Lady Jung was the head lady before Lady Han, and she was very close to the king. (Didn't help her any at the end, unfortunately.) She's the progenitor of all this talk about "do not harm the person with food"--she was installed as a puppet by the head lady who is now trying to get rid of Lady Choi, but then Lady Jung turned on them and took over the kitchen for many years. She was a great teacher. But maybe I'm telling you what you already know. I thought it was really sweet when we found out that the reason the king came back to Lee Yeun-seng-ssi was that JG put in a good word with the head eunuch (whose name also appears to be Jung), and he took advantage of the fact that the king ran into Yeun-seng in the yard to get him back to her.
Unfortunately, I did not mean to watch this series and I missed the entire first episode (how stupid is that). I came in at the middle of the second or third. So, I do not know how the Gaungs adopted JG. I know (and you probably do, too) that her father died due to JG's blunder and her mother died due to the Chois' machinations, but I do not know how they got her or how she managed to infiltrate the palace as a small child. I do recall that the other little girls were angry with how she did it, so it must have been one of her smart little tricks, which somehow involved her becoming Lady Han's acolyte.
I LOVE THIS SHOW! HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LOVE THIS SHOW!

Thanks for all that information, Bo! No, I did not know any of it! It's all fascinating. I missed the entire first half and didn't start watching till JG was exiled to Jeju. If DJG comes out on DVD with subtitles, I will have to buy it and a DVD player. Gamsa-hamnida! Although, I do vaguely remember watching some early episodes, and that part Lady Jung supposedly being a puppet. Very little of this now makes sense to me, unfortunately, but that's the price I paid for snoozing on the K-drama job. Hey, where the heck is Jeju Island supposed to be in relation to the palace? I know where Jeju is, and it's REALLY far offshore (south) off mainland Korea. So how is it Sir Min was able to go back and forth between JG and the palace in last weekend's episodes? I suppose the answer is that she wasn't there, so where in heck was she? I thought they kept saying Jeju. From my 21st-century, Catholic-raised perspective, it's pretty hilarious to think of Jang-geum getting the king to "pollinate" Lady Lee and having it be thought a proper action and a thoughtful favor among friends. Tee-hee! Are you saying that JG accidentally killed her abuji? XO L.

'I didn't mean to do that! snivel' I didn't trust Young-ro at all- I didn't believe she would honestly turn loyal to Lady Lee. More likely the Chois told her to try to infiltrate Lady Lee's inner circle to try to undermine things.

BTW, I have NO recollection of this happening Friday or Saturday! Is my brain turning to abalone porridge? Methinx risotto...Seriously, if you like the character of the Queen in this series, then you'll LOVE her in Yeoin Cheonha/Women's World/Ladies of the Palace where the Queen in question is based on the same historical figure as Choko mentioned in another thread. Now THAT one is about harem vs. court politics and you will see explicit catfights between the Queen and various concubines, brutal b-slaps, cold water tortures perpetrated by and unto ladies of the palace, disgraced concubines hauled off kicking and screaming into windowless palanquins, etc.
