Okay, this is petty, esp b/c they are CHARACTERS in a FICTIONALIZED drama very loosely based on one scrap of historical knowledge, but I have to ask ...
The younger lady choi seems so inelegant in her speech to me. Mind you I don't speak a scrap of Korean so this is going on the following:
It seems to me that she has either a nasally tone of voice or swallows some of her words (or both; I'm not sure).
So, to my American ear this seems less elegant than JG's talking. By contrast, JG's speech sounds crisper.
I'm trying to pay more attention to the young Queen since Sophie said she has such good speaking skills (probably due to her true profession being in broadcasting instead of acting).
How is this perceived by Koreans? Obviously, I have now idea what your standards in speech are.
Thanks in advance for any information or opinions!

That's quite an accurate observation, I think. I do agree that Geum-young has a nasal voice that is rather thick. In contrast, JG's tone of voice is higher and clearer. However, some say that JG's high voice is not perfect for historical drama series such as DJG, where deeper voices are preferred. That's probably because we believe that our ancestors spoke with more dignity and formality. (well, just my guess) As you pointed out, to my Korean ear, JG's pronunciation is articulated and crisp, but it is not the typical "historical drama voice", I guess.

Have we welcomed you to the board yet, Jon? Seems we're attracting more and more actual Korean people. What a pleasure.
I think the voices of Keum-young and Jang-geum fit their personalities. KY is very deliberate and precise; JG is quicker, she flits more.
