Throughout the series, Jang Geum's country/simplefolk foster parents have sought to not only comfort JG but also provide comic relief to the audience . I love the way they act up, their commoner speech (notice that almost every sentence ends with a -yo ;D), and the way they spontaneously break out into folk dance. The actors are also very familiar--I've seen the man in another role somewhere, can't remember, perhaps a modern drama. The lady I remember as King Kyung-hwon's power-hungry Queen in Emperor Wang Gun. What a totally different role for her--in EWG she always looked on edge, sneering and staring with those big eyes! Almost as bad as Lady Choi ria (re-incarnated as ;D) RH (in One Million Roses ) , lol. These actors are really at the top of their craft! Three cheers for them!

I completely agree, jacques. The characters are funny and complicated, especially the woman. I saw her fleetingly in a modern-dress drama, too, I can't think when--it probably was not captioned. They are well written and used with good effect to move the action and provide comic relief.

Their was an ep. I belive it was the last ep before the flash forward or after the flash foward and Jang Geum's Foster parents were eating the ducks since the husbands who's name I forgot bought all the ducks .And the wife said she was with child. I was wondering what happen with that after that they never showed anything about it.

I was wondering what happen with that after that they never showed anything about it. They resolved that when Mr Gaung went to visit JG at Jeju Island. He told her that they had a daughter, but she died in a flu epidemic when she was two. He seemed sad, but resigned to it. You can read about that episode (#31): deiner.proboards18.com/index.cgi?board=daejanggeum&thread=1081889285&action=display&start=0Bo

It was so funny last night, when the villagers presented Col. Min with some ginseng, but he said for them to eat it, since it is good when you're recovering. 'Father' couldn't believe he would leave it, and had to help himself to one.

JG foster mom seemed really mean to her when she said that her love for Sir Min cannot be expressed due to the fact that she is in a class lower than him and it would be impossible to set a marriage between them.
I found this really mean and it seemed to pop out of nowhere (I guess it is because I was watching the Sat show with comercials). I do, however, remember a man visiting JG's foster father on the occasion of offering his son/ a male relative to him so one can marry JG.
Who was that man and why has the sudden question of marriage popped up?

He has some position, I forget what right now. I think he was recruited by Sir Choi and Sir Oh to find if Jang-geum was betrothed to Col. Min, which would violate the law against marrying across class lines, resulting in the dismissal of Col. Min and JG. 'Father' started to spill the beans, but 'Mother' had seen Oh and Choi in the other room, and stopped him just in time.

He went to see Lady Choi with YR to make a plan regarding the eunuch thing. And he's been shown throughout the drama. You probably forgot because that's from way back when JG was a kitchen lady. He was part of the poison duck/Hong sickness plot, too. Bo
