I took detailed notes while I was watching. They're episodes 31 and 32. If anyone needs recaps, I'll be happy to do complete ones, either by Friday or over the weekend. No, I'm not a glutton for punishment, but I'd be upset if I missed one or two complete episodes by accident.

Hi.
I just returned from out of town and was horrified to find that I missed the episodes from last weekend, due to the schedule change. If you wouldn't mind too terribly, I would really like a synopsis of what happened. Thank you!

Okay, I'll start now. Episode 31 (the first two paragraphs are from a previous post of mine, so you can skip them if you read them already):
First, we see a montage of the scenes where JG decided to become a physician--(1) she runs to Captain Min and tells him that she can get back to the palace that way, and then she can take revenge on her enemies, which he agrees is a wonderful thing; (2) she bows to doctorlady (Jang-deuk) and humbly begs to be trained; (3) she is beaten by JD on backs of legs for not knowing correct answers, and then begins reciting them over scenes of her running around looking at faces and studying people and making medicine and looking at patients in hospice; (4) she is confronted by Jung Woon-baek (the pharmacist from the herb garden)--when she tells him she's doing this to get revenge, he yells at her and says no physician can have that attitude and if that's hers, she should just quit (I never saw this scene before); (5) she is talking to JD in shed, who says, yes, I trapped you this way, you now have to choose between being a real doctor and just wanting revenge; and (6) JG walks along seashore, being watched by Cap Min, who apparently is remembering conversation with JD about the qualities of someone who "makes it"--someone who can rise above the circumstances and still see the goal, and there's that great silouhette of JG by the shore (which we saw at the end of Ep.30).
"Two years later" we see the chef and and his rice-wine maker wife arguing in the yard about a trip he's going to make to Jeju Island, and she asks him if he needs money. He seems surprised by this question, and she drags him into the house and gives him some of her secret stash. He says it's not enough to get to Hades (tee hee) and she says, well, you want to go or not? Then she asks him why he is carrying such a large bundle, and he says he just has some clothing and sandals and, oh, okay, a little liquor. She explodes and opens the pack, and takes out the liquor and several wooden things that might be writing accessories or household items. She says he doesn't need those, and then she gives him a package of dried persimmons for JG, who loves them but probably can't get them as a servant. Then she sends him on his way. As he leaves, he snatches an unwilling hug from her (I don't know how these two managed to have a child and by the way, you don't see one toddling around). As he walks away from their home, he pulls a large necklace of money from under his robes, chuckling that he doesn't think she knows anything about it. I tend to agree.
Next, we see JG learning the acupuncture meridians in a cave by the sea. The nurse comes and complains that the physician is always making JG memorize things she already knows; the doctor (Jang-deuk) wants her to come. JG diagnoses a patient for JD, but JG is unable to do the acupuncture because she chickens out. JD does it. Later, JG is again practicing the meridians on the nurse, who keeps yammering on about how JD is holding JG back and what's the use of memorizing things you already know. JD and Min are standing in the background watching this. They go out to a field to talk, where Min tells JD she is making a mistake teaching JG this way. She says, JG is afraid to do the acupuncture because she almost killed me with it, because she was too cocky. She has to learn to let it go, I can't do it for her, and you could always teach her yourself, Mr Smarty Pants. Later, Min tries to tell JG she should not be afraid. JG says, JD is making me meditate to let me get rid of my hatred so I can be a good physician, and I want to be a good physician but I also can't let go of my need for revenge, so I'm just not ready to go forward.
Min is sent to guard horses being delivered to the king, because they keep getting stolen by pirates. The governor of the garrison tells Min not to worry about pirates attacking at Jeju, just get the horses delivered. He sends Jang-deuk to treat the soldiers at the place Min is going (Woonsu).
As they leave, a man runs through the town yelling he has an emergency patient. They take him to JG; it turns out to be the ferry captain with an unconscious Mr Gaung, who had some sort of attack on the boat. JG won't do acupuncture to cure him quickly, but rather burns some sort of incense cone on his chest to bring him around. He thinks he must be in heaven. They hug and talk and laugh. He tells her about the child he and his wife had eating the "poisoned" ducks; unfortunately, the child died a few months before when a flu went around. JG asks about asks about Yeun-seng and Lady Min, but Mr Gaung doesn't know anything because he and his wife lost their license to sell at the palace (revenge by Lady Choi).
Late that night, JG walks by the shore. She passes some soldiers on patrol, who tell her, what are you doing here, but don't bother her. She asks "Lady Han, am I doing the right thing? Should I give up revenge?"
She does not see the Japanese pirates who well up out of the bush. (Interestingly, the pirates speak Japanese to each other, which is translated to Korean at the bottom of the screen under the English titles.) They manage to overrun the watch before a signal fire can be lit. They swarm the government house, and the governor runs off with his entourage, leaving the foot soldiers and the guests and slaves to fend for themselves. They are imprisoned.
End part 1

Part 2:
The pirates desperately seek for a physician to care for their "chief" who has a mysterious disease. The physician apparently fled. They find the pharmacy in the government house and deduce a doctor is in the house. They bring out the prisoners and demand the doctor; no one speaks. They say the lady doctor (JD) went to Woonsu. The pirate does not believe them and says he'll flog everyone. Someone stammers that there's a lady who is very good, but not a doctor, but JG keeps quiet. Then Mr Gaung, who seems to find it an occasion to brag (LOL), tells the pirate that JG is the "best" doctor. She tells him she can't, but he again threatens the other people. She looks at the chief and correctly diagnoses him, but he needs acupuncture and she refuses because she can't. He drags her outside and demands to know if she's telling the truth. The nurse says JG knows all the meridians by heart, in her sleep, she's just never used the needles. Mr Gaung tells JG to "poke him anywhere, this is no time for patriotism" and the pirate says, okay, if you won't do it, we'll kill that guy (Mr G) first, then the others, one by one. He says, fine, this'll be your first patient, gotta get started sometime. They almost have to chop Mr G's head off (literally) before she'll agree to try. They drag her to the chief and she manages to do it correctly, even though the pirate slams his sword threateningly into the floor right next to her, and the whole time she is remembering the time she nearly killed Jang-deuk with the acupuncture needle because she didn't gauge the depth correctly. She tells assistant chief pirate (who, by the way, has a really bad skin wig LOL) that he needs to send servants (nurses) from the pharmacy to get medicine in town. They go, and return with packages. The top one has a letter from Min, which JG hides. In the pharmacy, the nurse tells her that Min is in the town waiting for word from her. She reads his letter, which says, tell me what's going on, tell them you need to send the nurse back for more medicine. The assistant chief comes in and JG pretends to be bawling out the nurse for getting the wrong medicine. We don't see her writing a letter to Min, but apparently she does and manages to get the nurse out with it (because of what happens later).
Next morning, the chief is recovering but still very ill. The pirates are going to take JG with them, because she says he can't be moved. She says there is a rare ingredient that they need in a field nearby. Second assistant pirate (a hothead but a real cutie with better hair than top assistant pirate) barks, "We'll get it later!" JG says, sweetly, "Oh, fine, but of course, ours is so much more potent, but if you want inferior ingredients...well, yes, let's be on our way." Top AP says, take us to your field.
She directs them into a field with some sort of "rhubarb" and says if they all help it'll go faster, and they have to be extremely careful not to bruise the roots (the part they need). All the pirates start digging in the dirt, and when they're fully absorbed in this task, Min's men come pouring over the wall, yelling. There are three battles--in the field, in the government house compound and in the meadow--with lots of swordwork and excellent choreography. Very exciting. When the pirates are chased off or captured, the governor shows up and tells Min, "Oh, I was just about to attack those guys! I'm going to recommend you get a medal!" Min does not look impressed.
Later, Mr Gaung, Min and JG are having drinks (well, not JG), and Mr G takes credit for the whole thing, having "pushed JG forward." Later still, JG and Min are sitting in the snow on the porch, and Min tells her how wonderful it is being at Jeju with her, how he wants to help her but can't, and how he has a secret part of him that wants to hold her back so she'll need him. She says, it doesn't matter where she is or what station she's in (lady or slave), he always affirms her as a woman and as a human being. He holds her hand.
JG then treats Gaung so he won't be seasick anymore, and she thanks him for making her do acupuncture for the first time and now she can move forward. He says he's been eating tangerines; she says oh no, those are the king's; he says, "Wah! Don't tell anyone!" They laugh. Min and Gaung are going to take the same ship home and to Woonsu. They take their leave of JG.
Jang-deuk comes back and tells JG she is now going to learn how to treat with animal poisons. Then (I think the next day), JG is summoned by the guard. They both go to the yard, where a big shot announces that JG is being arrested for treason, for treating an enemy pirate. End.
I'll have to do episode 32 a little later--maybe in the morning, but certainly before Monday. Okay?

Thank you, Thank you! I was out of town last week and taped the Sat & Sun reruns. I've been watching all the Englished-subtitled dramas for 3.5 years, right after I had my son, quit my job, and became a housewife. Korean drama is really big in Taiwan and I am glad I can catch up with my friends there.
Thanks again!

EPISODE 32 -- (It may have looked like two episodes up there, but I had to split the post, so much went on!):
Part 1:
We begin with JG being dragged off by the soldiers to the palace, much to everyone's consternation. Min does not know about this, as he comes to the palace with the governor to meet Sir Oh. Sir Oh looks at Min suspiciously as he stalks off while the governor says he meant to meet with Sir Oh at the place where the bad guys meet (the prostitution/drinking house--like a geisha place, I guess). The governor is told by Oh (at dinner) that he and "Kim Chi Sung" (who turns out to be Min's old chief and mentor) have been summoned by the King to help deal with the frequent attacks on the kingdom, because they dealt with the Japanese pirates and the Yuhjin (who? I dunno who they are). (Kim was the general at Pyung-ahm--is this important to anyone?) Oh does not trust Kim (presumably because he's loyal to the king, not money). Meantime, in the security cheif's office (Min's palace spy boss), Min is reading the governor's report, which blames JG for the pirate's taking over the post and pretends the governor worked WITH Min to take it back. Min, of course, is furious. It's a pack of lies! The chief says, well, that handmaiden (JG) is on trial by the police right now!
So, this is the summary of the situation: The king summoned Kim to join the cabinet and head up operations against pirates. Kim is too honorable, which made Oh nervous, so Oh summoned the governor to appoint, also, because the governor impressed the king by saving the colony without loss of civilian life (in his false report). The governor, to make his story good, blamed JG for supposedly giving the pirates the key to the warehouses and helping them cure their chief, so she's the scapegoat. Min, all unknowing, came to the palace to present JG's letter (telling him the pirates' movements) to the king for a reward to JG for being a good citizen.
Min goes to where JG is being interrogated. She's just frantic, trying to explain. He tells the police the charges are false and the governor's report is false, and he presents the letter to the police for proof. Then asks that the interrogation be--oh, what is that word--paused? Then there is a meeting between Min, security chief, governor and Oh. Min reveals the governor's failures and evil deed. The governor sputters. Oh, looking like he ate anchovies, says, okay, even if he lied, the king has said that anyone who assists people who make these raids on the kingdom are guilty of treason, and JG is a test case. Even though she was trying to save other peoples' lives. Min sputters, but is forced to agree that she did, indeed, save the pirate's life.
Well. We next see two doctor ladies, talking about the Jeju lady doctor case, and wondering what their duty is, to save life or not. Also, what if other peoples' lives hang in the balance--do you still not save your enemy? They are summoned to serve the queen. Sir Jung (pharmacy man) comes out from background and wonders if the lady doctor from Jeju is Jang-deuk (because she would do this). The ladies tell the queen (the young one) about this conundrum. She gets the whole story out of them, and learns the king ordered the interrogation of JG as an example. The king walks in, and asks the queen what they were discussing (the ladies leave). Queen says, something important. Oh, by the way, I hear you're making an example of someone here now? King: "Oh, yes, I don't know the details. I told my court to deal harshly with anyone who gives comfort to the enemy. They told me they had a bad one, so I told them to make an example of her." Queen: "Well, I think you should know the details." He looks a bit surprised.
Next scene: The king is reading the false report and reading the riot act to Sir Oh, the security chief, the chief eunuch--everyone is there. What is this ridiculous situation! Why are you interrogating someone who saved peoples' lives! And why did a false report get filed by a government official and not get punished! Sir Oh whines, "Well, it's your law! You said make an example of someone who helps the enemy!" The king says, "NO NO NO." As if he's talking to a child. "I meant, when people help the enemy, other civilians get hurt. This woman only helped the enemy because other civilians and soldiers' lives were in danger. She did an honorable thing, (you mangy morons, you). Dismiss the governor from his post and reward the lady doctor!" Everyone happy except Oh, of course.
I'm going to push things together here for each part of the story, rather than relating them as they occurred, so you get a complete picture of each part. JG is released. She sees Sir Jung, who says, I will visit you later. It turns out there is an examination of lady physicians at the palace in 7 days, but Sir Jung won't tell JG until he knows her heart. He visits her, and she says that she can't promise she has changed. He does not tell her about the exam. Min tells Sir Jung that JG has to make up her own mind and he won't try to influence her.
Min is told by his chief that his old boss, Sir Kim, wants Min to stay at the court and help with the invader problem. Min says he has to return to Jeju. JG overhears one of Min's servants saying his mother is not well, he has to return, why is he being so stubborn. That night, JG goes to Min and tells him no matter where he is, he's in her heart and keeps her whole, so please, return to the court and do your duty. He agrees to do so.
End part 1.

Part 2 of Episode 32:
So JG and Officer Park (the guy from Jeju who likes JG--he's been here the whole time, doing minor stuff in the story) set off for Jeju. On the way, JG insists on stopping at Lady Han's grave. She wants to make a mound to keep her warm. Park objects--the time! Mr Gaung comes up with something he forgot to give JG and finds out what's going on. He pummels Park and says, "This is a great lady! We have to bury her properly, you twit!" He drags Park off to get shovels.
They are building the mound when a young boy, dressed richly, says to them, you can't bury someone there, everyone thinks it's haunted already, and it's our land. JG runs after the boy and asks him if he's ill. He's a little irritated. She looks in his face and names some symptoms, and tells him she knows a cure for his chronic illness. He decides to trust her and brings her into his home. His aged father is furious, but the boy seems to be in charge. JG proceeds to boil a whole ox, in pieces, while she remembers the words of Jang-deuk on this cure. Everyone is mystified why she thinks she can cure the boy with a "beef." The father several times tries to stop her, because it takes several days and the boy is throwing up and miserable, but the boy insists they continue, Mr G and Park in the yard the whole time terrified they're going to jail. The boy is cured. It turns out when he was ill with this the first time as a little child, the physicians (who diagnosed him correctly) only gave him medicine, but did not cure the source of the problem, which apparently was some sort of blockage in the chi or bowels or something, which this cure, essentially a laxative course, got rid of. Now the medicine can work. (The cure is from Western China, so none have heard of it.) The boy is some sort of learned sage, probably because of his illness, and he tells JG he knew she was coming to help him. His father assumes she's there for the physician test at the palace. They say to thank her, they'll move Lady Han and honor and tend her grave. JG, Gaung and Park run off to the palace, but not before the boy tells JG her face says she'll save many people and tells her to study the Book of Changes.
JG just makes it into the exam, with a little flummery from Mr G. When she enters the room (in a group of three women), she sees Sir Jung, who is one of the examiners, who say, if one of us scores you "down" on any one question, you're out. The other examiners ask questions that JG runs over, because she's so knowledgable. Then Sir Jung asks, if your enemy is ill and you can save his life, should you. The other two give thoughtful answers meaning "yes"; JG says, she has not yet decided. JG goes out to Mr G and says she failed, and he scolds her for not being obsequious enough to Sir Jung. When Mr G tells his wife, she can't believe JG would fail at something. The next morning, the winners are posted, and much to their surprise, JG is admitted to the school. Sir Jung tells her that until she makes up her mind on this question, he will not make up his mind on JG but will give her chances. She is happy. Officer Park is sad to go back to Jeju alone, but Sir Min says if some job comes up at the palace, he'll send for Park, who's ecstatic.
Next morning, JG enters physician school. (They are training lady physicians to serve the people--the exam apparently only happens once in a blue moon.) JG tells Min, she must be in the top three even to be apprenticed to a palace doctor lady, and then she must be the best. Min says she'll make it.
(I left out the little scenes where Jang-deuk and the nurses try to figure out what's going on, and comment on the physician test, because they don't really move the action, but JD is certainly concerned with JG's fate.)
For her first class, Sir Jung introduces Shin Ik-pil (a big deal is made about this guy, so he must be important) as their teacher. Shin says, from now on, you are a clean slate. FORGET everything you ever learned before this day, and only do things the way I tell you to do them. JG smiles with delight.
End Episode 32.
