If you were as confused as I was watching Friday (Jan 16) night's show, it's because several scenes were cut, but were restored in this morning's airing.
We first find out about the Archivist when, after unsuccessfully trying to get the laborers to work, Jang-geum finds the other woman unconscious. One of the men says, "Quick, get my accupuncture kit", as he's seen that she's eaten some kind of berries. He is able to rouse her, and get her to vomit out what she's eaten. Jang-geum realizes he is no mere laborer, and he tells her he is the Archivist.
Later, Jang-geum is waiting in the garden, to see who is digging up the herb. She sees someone sneaking around, and is then surprised by the Archivist, who tells her he wants to find out also. After a struggle. he is able to subdue the perpetrator, who is one of the laborers.
There were only two commercial breaks in the morning broadcast: one right after the opening credits, and another about 45 minutes into the show. Once you subtract out the ads, the running length was nearly sixty full minutes, and we don't even see all of the opening and closing credits.
Unfortunately, the tape problems that WOCH seems to have been having lately, were back in the Saturday AM broadcast.

Thanks for the info- I knew some important stuff was missing from Friday night. Will the morning shows usually have more scenes? If so, I'll tape them instead of the evening showings, so we can catch what we miss.

Yes, Sunday morning had several minutes of scenes which were omitted Sat. Evening. In one, when Jang Guem couldn't figure out the puzzle in the test, some girls are commenting how she couldn't have known that (it was part of a lecture given while she was sentenced to the herb garden) and her friend hadn't written it in her class notes. Also her step father tries to figure out how shes doing in the test, and the Royal Guard Captain appears a little more (developing his character- I suspect he will get quite important in the story soon). An official explains to the high kitchen ladies that they need to tighten up the standards on the exam and fail a lot of girls. The accounting department has called for downsizing of the palace payroll -sounds like the 21st century! So they can only pass 20 girls from each department, and need to fail about 10 from each. That gets explained to the girls, and they they are told not to worry, to relax and do well on the test (yeah, right!)

I will have to start taping the morning episodes instead of the evening ones. Sounds like I've missed quite a bit.

The need to air commercials is as frustrating as it is necessary. I guess I should be grateful to have any Korean tv station broadcasting at all in my necks of the woods.
