After reading some of the threads, I've noticed that some viewers don't like Hye Ran. To be honest with you all, I don't like her either. I like Son Tae Young but her character in OMR just bugs me. It's funny because, most of the time, if I like the actor or actress playing the role I'll like the character but Hye Ran annoys me. Then again, the only characters from this drama that haven't annoyed me yet are Yu Kyung and Hye Sung. They're the best thing about OMR.
I wanted to get some of your thoughts on Son Tae Young and the character that she plays, Hye Ran.

Oooh, I have major beef with Hye-ran! Has anyone noticed her facial expression when she's upset? It looks as though she's smelled something really stinky! I noticed this when Min-jae was telling her he doesn't hate her anymore. All I could think of during that scene was, "What did she get a whiff of?"

I've diskliked Hye-ran from the beginning. At first she seemed too preoccupied w/positioning her teeth into the perfect smile to really care about what she was saying.
She is so void of any believable sentiment. Like when she was "crying of happiness" when her mum approved the marriage, I bet they had to strategically place those tears.
So I am not sure if I don't like the way Hye-ran is being played or if I don't like the actress or what. She kind of reminds me of Sun-joo from YH w/those kind of "acting" capabilities.

She's totally hot, but not the best actress.

Hmmmm...I actually think So Tae-Young is perfect for the role...since I don't think her Hye-Ran character requires that much acting ability.....So Tae Young does exactly what her character requires of her, in my view...nothing more, nothing less! But I can't imagine So Tae-young exhibiting the same kind of powerful emotion as Lee Seung-yun in FIRST LOVE....Now her's was truly an amazing performance by an actress!

Nothing was more powerful than the performances of the 2 awesome actresses that portrayed Na-young and Hyun-ja in Wife. I didn't think anyone could cry on demand like that.

I think Hye-ran's annoying, too. She also lacks facial expressions. Maybe her character was meant to be portrayed as an introvert and she is not supposed to show strong reactions when she is happy/sad.

I think I may seen part of that drama, but it didnt have english subs...so I didn't pay attention to it.... With Lee Seung-yun, it went beyond just the acting, one can get really overwhelmed with how powerful the storyline was in FIRST LOVE. At times, it was a life or death situation...and how her character had to cope with extreme emotional conditions!

But she did win some sort of Golden Award for best actress, I think? No, the award she won was the popularity award. That's literally the name of the award. It's voted on by fans and isn't based on an actors performance in a drama. Therefore, anyone can win it even someone who gave a subpar performance.

I never saw "Wife" but if their performances were anything close to the actress who played Ja-Young in YH, then I know what you mean. I would sit in awe and wonder where all the water was coming from. I cried watching her cry! Hye-Ran doesn't do much for me actress-wise either. Beautiful girl, average actress. Of course, maybe that will change in later episodes. [Is it me or does the one side of her face tend to curl up as if she is smirking?] Liz

I never saw "Wife" but if their performances were anything close to the actress who played Ja-Young in YH, then I know what you mean. I would sit in awe and wonder where all the water was coming from. I cried watching her cry! When I watched "Who's My Love" I loved EVERYONE *except* Lee Tae Ran (Hana), who was the LEAST subtle actress I thought I'd ever seen. She was painful to watch and to listen to. Then I saw her in "Yellow Handkerchief" as Ja-young and omigod. I couldn't believe it was the same person. Such brilliance, such movement, such grace. If she was in the scene, you could not take your eyes off of her. For this reason, I am willing to give Son Tae Young (Hye-ran) the benefit of the doubt. I am beginning to develop a fondness for that smile--it's almost as though she smiles all the time to "get through"--as though it's some sort of protection mechanism for the character. I don't think she has the same expression all the time--I think it's only that she smiles all the time. Different smiles for different situations. Maybe I'm foooooooooooling myself. Bo
