Under another OMR thread, someone posted about First Love. I adore Choi Su-jong and would love to see him in this. Is it available? Are any Korean dramas available on VHS? I don't have a DVD player.

That's what my sister keeps telling me! But I am so resistant to the march of technology; it seems like whatever they put out there becomes almost an obligatory purchase. Like how you can't find any music on cassette anymore, only on CD (I finally bought a CD player about 4 years ago!). That was basically a story of collusion in the music industry, complete with price-fixing so that record stores found that they couldn't earn a decent profit on cassettes and so had to carry everything on CD. Consequently, demand for cassettes fell off, and now you can't find them. I was always OK with the sound quality of audiocassettes, but try saying that now and people think you don't know anything about music! Now most movies are on DVD, many of them exclusively, so you've gotta get a DVD player. I'm not the sort of person to buy something just because everyone else is--I'm pretty stubborn about that. I am a real technological misfit! I'm not against technology, just against the marketplace telling me what I "need" all the time. Lucy

Hi Lucy! I actually have the entire series on VHS, but as part of special order in 1998...cost me bit of money, I must admit...unfortunately, it has no English subs, but I know the major storyline by heart because I watched it in 1997 from I think eps. 44 until the dramatic final episode (ohhhh...they should have just continued this series even for another 200 eps....the characters, and the story are just so good!) It is actually available in several versions on VCD, but I wouldn't recommend any of the ones I have seen....I picked up a 40 VCD boxset on ebay but to my regret, it edited so many key scenes....I just wasted money on that....) But I still have to check whether this series is available from a direct Korean source...One store has the complete 66-episodes on 66 VCDs but only in Mandarin, not Korean!) All I can say is, if the different TV stations ever do an encore broadcast of FIRST LOVE, the different forums will be buzzing with excitement, and strong emotional postings! Some of the scenes are just so powerful! Ohhhh....I just cannot say enough about this drama! And Choi Su-jong, what a performance! I still get goosebumps thinking of just how great this series was!

First Love was a very good drama. Great cast too ... Choi Soo Jung, Bae Yong Jun, Lee Seung Yeon and Choi Ji Woo. An all-star cast...Choi Soo Jung and Bae Yong Jun are great as brothers! Lee Seung Yun and Choi Soo Jung have such amazing chemistry...they bring a certain magic whenever they are in a scene together....I remember how the media often look at celebrity couples, like Brad and Jen or Ben and J. Lo, or even Britney and Justin, and comment how each couple is so compatible in terms of looks....With respect to Hyu-kyung and Chan-hyuk, their appearances change through the years...Hyo-kyung becomes more and more beautiful, and those shots of her in Paris, she seemed like a sophisticated Euro-Asian super model...but is forced to be separated from her beloved Chan-hyuk for a good number of years, and thinks he is dead...while Chan-hyuk remains an ordinary-looking guy and a little haggard after the tragic accident leaves him crippled...but I could still see them as a nice-looking couple!....Man, they are like the most appealing couple I have ever seen in a K-drama! OMR's Hyun-kyu and Hye-ran don't even come close!
