Every month or so i Google YH to see if its on the market yet and i found this story Oof! I just found the Chosun Ilbo story online myself, ShoNuff, and was going to post it in your thread. It's funny to read, comparing it to the original article, because everything is mixed up. I wonder if it was translated to Korean then translated back to English for this edition? I think it more likely that they just edited the heck out of it. This is my favorite line: "An official from Chicago’s WOCH-TV told a surprising anecdote he had." Bo

For this foreign/language stuff you have to go to the horse's mouth.
REVERSED: They probably had a FOREIGN SECTION reporter who did not know Englsih to start. I wonder if they knew WHERE Korea is.
The NEWS is a joke. Commercials are from people on drugs.
NOTICE the flood damage as SO NICE as anti panic to sell.
I have MORE fun and learn MORE from pure Korean news. I can out my own words in.

Uhh...Richard, what are you talking about? The story that was published was the one written by the Chicago AP writer. It was then apparently translated into Korean, but then translated back into English. (i assume most of the stories were written in Korean to begin with, and then translated). You seem extremely negative, for no apparent reason...

SOOOO much confusion comes in with foreign stuff due to communication (comprehending). I SAW long long ago you can make heads or tails of the first try at the English from foreign, after that forget it.
The real meaning is lost. It is a terrible problem everywhere and the "media" should NOT have that situation.

Hey !!! Relax...the AP guy speaks English and does know where Korea is plus a couple of other places in Asia. (I know 'cause I'm married to him and we've visited a few of them.)
The story wouldn't have been written without his having to live with me watching this stuff since late in 1994 or maybe early 1995...Chang Nok Soo started it all in our house!
But once the story is written, edited by someone else and sent on the wire it takes on a life of its own. Whaddyagonna do?
Buddhacat
BTW--did you guys see the article in a similar vein in KoreAm magazine a couple of months ago?

Don't get too excited about the KoreAm article.....it could have been longer/better...but still worth taking a look at. It spent most of the time talking about how popular the shows are outside of Korea and mentioned that a lot of Chinese come to Korea for "drama tours." Now I have to say, I've thought of doing that myself. Hey, here's another thing...I think we may have the youngest regular watchers in our house. My kids are 7 and 9 and started watching last year with Yellow Handkerchief.

Never too early to start 'em on Korean drama, especially the historical ones (one can probably skip the uber-melodramatic or xtra-b*!#@y ones! ;D)! Not only the Chinese market, but K-drama tours are also popular in Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

I feel that the quality of american dramas(ie passions) is a sign that shows like YH are overdue and the public is being drenched in StupidTV instead of being offered new intresting stuff to watch. K-Dramas, if given a chance on one of the networks would give them the innovative shot in the arm that unReality TV has failed to. ShoNuff I am still pissed that Angel is off the air please excuse my ranting.
