It's probably because it's the part in Three Kingdom history with the most historical record remaining and involves unification, which is something that many Koreans aspire.

Wang Guhn's time period also involves unification, but I think the stories from Samguk Yusa kind of give this time period a Korean version of "Romance of Three Kingdoms" vibe.
