No information on the story, but with the drama's name it's most likely to be during King Hyojong's reign, planning to strike back against Qing.

Itβs kind of amusing to me that they made dramatizations of a kingβs aspiration only to build it up to nothing considering Hyojongβs expedition never happens

Wasnβt this remade in 1980 ? . The second version being Daemyeong ? Iβm guessing a bit here as Daemyeong also about the failed northern expedition although a large part was about fighting the Russians .
Or maybe itβs two dramas that cover the same era ?
I know Daemyeong was the first color drama to be broadcast on KBS but not much else except itβs subject matter .

I don't have any information to disprove that though.
Daemyeong/Great Vocation isn't the first color drama on KBS (at least, not the first filmed in color, Hometown Legends was doing hybrid episodes since 1978), but it is the first Daeha drama (1981). |
