One of KBS' Sunday Sageuks nope, it's a daily. And here's the only picture I know from this drama: I might run through the newspapers to find some synopses, there should be for at least one episode...

Managed to get one synopsis from Episode 33 (1973/03/12) "Grand Prince Chungnyeong passes the civil examination, and Taejong is disappointed that the Crown Prince didn't. The families of each Prince are split between joy and sadness..."
Can Princes take the national examination?

That doesn't sound right.
Could it be like a mock exam?

They used the term "κ³Όκ±°λ₯Ό μ₯μνλ," which feels really specific.

Sounds like maybe they tossed some fiction in there. I did a search of the GKS board, which has all of those very detailed summaries that I made for every episode, and there was no mention of either prince taking any kind of exam in that series. Not that it's impossible, of course, but it seems like the kind of thing that would have been mentioned in that series.

After possibly the worst tussle I've had with the newspapers yet, I've finally determined that this show has 199 episodes. At some point the show went from 6 days a week to 5 but nobody got the memo?? Also in May 1973 the World Cup qualifiers were going on which pre-empted the show so many times that sometimes the show was down to 2 episodes a week, and they didn't even need to because they could've just done like MBC and TBC and moved broadcast to earlier/later as they needed it. Add a few government PSAs and the last few months where they started experimenting with broadcast schedules (like extra episodes on Wednesdays or Saturdays and recap episodes on Mondays) and the only thing saving these entries was the occasional "oh this is the episode we're on btw" and the episodes synopses. Now that that's out of the way, Bong Sun Bin gets cut out of this story and Kim Hwi Bin becomes Kim Hee Bin, who gets deposed for her brutish behavior culminating in skipping meals and wresting the Crown Prince into her bedchamber against the King's wishes. The Crown Prince is head over heels for her in this drama btw, and pleads with Sejong not to depose her. Sejong starts developing Hangeul way earlier in this series than in the 2008 version, and for that it gets drawn out. Other than that the latter half of this show is pretty similar to the 2008 series, but I guess it's because this is where the actual achievements are being mentioned instead of fictionalized Palace life. The last episode ends with the promulgation of the Hunmin Jeongeum.

Well thanks for digging in on that one, much appreciated...I'll add the number to the timeline.
Really a shame that this one didn't survive (I'm assuming), would have been fun to compare it to our 2008 series.

Another picture from the newspaper, confirming Park Geun Hyeong as Prince Yangnyeong. The guy playing Sejong Taejong (the papers got it wrong apparently) is Nam Seong Woo.
